If you are willing to be very forgiving, you might enjoy Nightscape: Dark Reign of Thanatos. But if you are like me, the moment the credits announced this was a student film, you won't be very forgiving at all.

They say:

Upon creating the earth the great god Zelos grew weary and so forged in his image two sons to uphold his kingdom and ensure its longevity, Aevum and Thanatos. As time progressed, so did the intentions of the two sons. The second, Thanatos poisoned himself against the will of his brother and turned to blackness and evil for answers. From this new hatred, the darkness bore a final battle to end the rule of either son- for their father lay dormant, undisturbed and unaware of his failing hopes. Years later, Thanatos threatens the very existence of our world, but something is still preventing him from total domination as the future of all humanity lies in the balance.

I respect that people need to start somewhere, and they need to learn. I'm not Roger Ebert, and I accept that. But sometimes it is hard to appreciate the work that people produce while they are learning. This fantasy film, set mostly in the modern world, aims high, but there is a reason that low budget fantasy films don't really play well. It takes money, or an extreme level of talent and creativeness, to pull off fantasy well. Since this film appears have neither of those in its pocket, you get a film that looks, at best, like a YouTube video. I higher quality YouTube video to be sure, but still not on the level of a polished studio production.

Overall, the acting isn't quite there, and many scenes are overly dialog heavy and slow, which only serves to accentuate the acting quality. The story itself has a kernal of good in it, but the execution of it, from script to filming, falls short.

I just cannot recommend that anyone seek out Nightscape: Dark Reign of Thanatos.
