A late night reporter & her cameraman set off to do a piece on the local fireman and their job. Everything seems to be going well and maybe even a little boring. Finally when a call comes in they all set off to help out an elderly woman. What they find in the apartment building is nothing they have seen and before any of them can make an escape the building is locked down trapping all inside. They will have to fight for their lives and find a way out or they will become infected along with all the others.

“Quarantine” was inspired by this movie, and unfortunately for “Rec” I watched “Quarantine” first. The stories are almost exactly the same (yes I know they should be but I have seen movies “inspired” by something and only use the characters names). So there is where some of the problem with grading and reviewing “Rec” is. If you liked or loved “Quarantine” then you probably already own it on DVD so what really is the point in buying the same thing over again just with different actors. And if you didn’t like “Quarantine” what could possibly motivate you to purchase the same movie just in another language? So really I guess this review will only help out if you have seen neither. And if that is the case I am going to direct you to the review for “Quarantine” I wrote.

As far as the movie goes, it is pretty basic outbreak/zombie movie. The plot is fairly generic, as are the scares and ending. One that zombie fans can make it through; but probably won’t be that excited once it is over and it may end up on your DVD shelf for sometime before you feel like re-watching it if you ever do.
