Title: Recoil Genre: Action/Adventure Starring: Danny Trejo, Steve Austin, Serinda Swan Director: Terry Miles Studio: Nasser Runtime: 93 minutes Release Date: March 6, 2012 Format: BLU-RAY Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: C- What's in a Name Normally in these movies, the title is pretty obvious, but in Recoil they don't get to telling you why it's called Recoil until the last scene of the film. And it's not worth the wait. Steve Austin is a terrible actor, but he’s a middle of the road action star. You won’t mistake the dialog of Recoil for Shakespeare, but then the bard’s work doesn’t contain as many explosions. Austin plays Ryan Varrett, a cop turned vigilante. After his family was killed he went hunting for the men who did it, and then just criminals who have escaped the law. Danny Trejo is Drayke, leader of all things lawless in the small town of Hope, Washington. The movie follows Varrett as he blows into town and starts blowing things up. He takes out the bad guys and takes apart their criminal organization. Serinda Swan from A&E’s Breakout Kings plays the part of the female that every action movie seems to require. She’s also the best actor in the whole film. There’s her, then Danny Trejo, a few steps down, most of the other actors, and then Steve Austin is right there at the bottom. A cigar store indian would deliver lines better than Steve. The movie is full of action cliches. Steve even manages to get in a slow walk toward the camera as a truck explodes in the background behind him. And while many of the fight scenes are interesting they aren’t surprising at all, most of them are a bit stiff and the final fight just doesn’t make a lick of sense. It really is a truly mediocre action film from start to finish. The Blu-ray contains minimal extras. There is an under eight minute "Making Of" featurette, a handful of deleted scenes (all of which were rightfully deleted) and the trailer. If you aren’t getting this for the movie, then there’s no reason to get it. |
