I was never really a big fan of this movie when it first came out. I was, of course, 16 when it first came out and didn’t really fully comprehend the intricacies of the film and the deep political meanings. After watching it again, I still think it is a little on the boring side and seems to clock in more hours than the actual 2 hour and 16 minute running time. All of this, of course, is neither here nor there because you you are considering purchasing this 10 year old movie on Blu-Ray, you have likely already made up your mind on the movie itself. Quality:
For being a decade old, Seven Years in Tibet is surprisingly crisp and the Blu-Ray format is a beautiful presentation for this seemingly forgotten movie. I’m not sure if it was filmed on location because of the lack of special features but wherever they did film it is breathtaking. Although there is not a whole lot of it, the sound is relatively decent. Bonus Features:
Notta. It’s rather disappointing that such a high profile format could ever have the word “bare-boned” attached to it but, unfortunately, this is the case. Not much more to say than that. Overall:
Not an overly impressive DVD release based on the lack of bonus features but the quality is outstanding and very deserving of the treatment it has been given, despite the boring movie itself
