Title: The Butcher Genre: Action/Adventure Starring: Eric Roberts, Robert Davi Director: Jesse V. Johnson Studio: Vivendi Runtime: 113 minutes Release Date: July 14, 2009 Format: DVD Discs: 1 Rating: () Grade: F NON-STOP ACTION FROM START TO FINISH! Um not so much I’ve seen more action on a peanut butter commercial! First I gotta say I am so not a fan of Eric Roberts but I gave it a shot. There is always hope. Nope he hasn’t gotten any better. This is supposed to be a gritty action thriller. Where is the grit? Where is the action? Where is the writing? Merle Hench (Eric Roberts) is an enforcer for the mob. He’s set up to take the fall for a rival mob boss. Merle survives the trap and tried to lay his own. But getting revenge is just going to bring you bad luck. Ya there’s some shooting (with really bad fake blood – seriously guys? High school kids do better in science projects) but other than that it’s flat. The story is just as flat and stereotypical. Bad guy gets double crossed then bad guy takes revenge. End of story. Nothing more complex than that. The writing is bad - not a good cheesy bad where you can make fun of it. It’s just boring bad. And the acting is just as boring. Not a good actor in the bunch really so what would I expect. Even the bonus features are dull. All you get is behind the scenes footage hosted by Mr. Roberts. Non-stop yawn from start to finish. I’m giving this hohummer an F. |
