This is the tale of Tommy Pistol and his demise by horrific means. It says so right in the title, The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol, which makes no promise it does not keep.

Tommy is a down on his luck actor. He misses his latest audition and his wife leaves him, taking the kid with her. Depressed, Tommy does what any man would do. He watches TV, makes some microwave hot dogs, and gets out his penis pump. Only Tommy is tired, accidentally puts the hot dog in for 20 minutes instead of 2 minutes and he falls asleep while pumping his penis pump.

He drifts into a nightmare filled sleep as the movie moves into the first of it's three segments, "Snuff Said". In this dream world, Tommy gets a call about an acting job and when he shows up there seems to be some confusion. These people are making snuff films, movies where people are killed on camera, but Tommy is sure it's just special effects. And so it is with glee and gusto he goes about killing the women in each scene not knowing he's actually killing them.

The second dreamworld is "10 Minutes of Fame" wherein Tommy sneaks onto a real film set for an Arnold Schwartzenegger film, kills the actor, and then skins him. He discovers that wearing the Arnold-suit gives him all of the man's ass-kicking abilities which he uses to fight off the rest of the crew.

Our final trip into dreamland takes us to "Attack of the Staph Spider". Despite the amount of killing and skinning we've seen so far, this nightmare is the most disgusting, as a porn actress is bitten by a strange spider and turns into some sort of pus oozing zombie. She gets her pus on the other actors and some of the crew, all of whom succumb to the same illness.

Tommy awakes as his hot dog explodes, both in the microwave and in his pants. He stumbles out of the house, ruptured member in hand, and gets in his truck to drive himself to the hospital. The movie ends as his truck drives away down the street, but before it fades to black, we see it stop up on the curb. Tommy Pistol is dead.

In all seriousness, while I love horror films, this sort of splatter gruesomeness isn't my bag. And while certain scenes made me cringe and others brought me to the brink of vomitting, I could appreciate the effects work that was doing done. Sometimes low budget film effects end up looking laughable and fake, but the gore in The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol doesn't fall into that trap. I didn't love this film, but on some levels I appreciated it. I'm interested in seeing what Aramis Sartorio does in the future.

The DVD release is set to have a whole bunch of extras, including:

  • Director Commentary
  • Space Camp unrated version as seen on FunnyorDie, featuring Joanna Angel
  • Interactive Gruesome Death drinking game
  • Behind-the-scenes footage and slide show
  • Interviews with cast Mia Tyler, Caleb Emerson, Kimberly Kane, and Director Aramis Sartorio
  • Welcome to Queens a look at the first sketch comedy troupe from Queens
  • Full Soundtrack 18 tracks with hilarious outtakes
  • Bonus music video DJ Tommy Pistol
  • Zoltron exclusive
  • Amorea NYC hardcore band
  • and more

However, my review copy included none of these, which is too bad because I might have enjoyed those more than the film. I can't say the DVD is a must have, but I can see some value in owning it.
