Title: The Heir Apparent: Largo Winch Genre: Action/Adventure Starring: Tomer Sisley, Kristin Scott Thomas, Miki Manojlovic Director: Jerome Salle Studio: Music Box Films Runtime: 108 minutes Release Date: March 27, 2012 Format: DVD Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: B+ The Heir Apparent is the US DVD release of the 2008 French film Largo Winch, based on the Belgian comic Largo Winch. A powerful billionaire dies and leaves everything to a mysterious adopted son, Largo, who must now protect his father's company from hostile takeover. There's even a sequel to this film you've probably never heard of that got released in Belgium last year. It helps the story that it isn't simply a corporate office drama by having Largo be an adventurous world traveller. He's unorthodoxed and willing to step outside the box to solve the problems he faces. The movie shifts constantly between a number of languages. This isn't just a French film with subtitles. There is quite a bit of English spoke, and French, and a few others, all of which, except English, are subtitled. The story takes place in many locales - Hong Kong, Serbia, Macau, Malta and Sicily - making is a very international film. While the story isn't very surprising, it is peppered with action sequences that are quite exciting to watch unfold. Especially since star Tomer Sisley did his own stunts, it allows the scenes to play out without jarring cuts or angles to hide the stand-ins. I was apprehensive when I put in the disc, not looking forward to reading a foreign film, but I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw, even more so because the film is four years old and still looks very good. I'd be very interested in seeing the sequel, and hope I don't have to wait until 2015 to get a US release. The Heir Apparent is definitely worth watching. |
