The Reader has been showered with awards for Best Actress, Best Motion Picture of the Year, Cinematography, Direction, Writing, but as a layman I found the film somewhat of a bore with characters I could not relate to whatsoever. There are some powerful moments but not many. Kate Winslet plays a woman who strikes up an affair with a young man who later finds out she was a guard for the S.S. and stands trial for her crimes. The young man (later played by Ralph Fiennes) must cope with all he has experienced taking the trauma into his adult life.
QUALITY:
Absolutely beautiful in every sense of the word. Colors are very vibrant and the sharpness of the film is well defined and fluid. In Dolby True HD the sound is fantastic giving you a well rounded scope depending on your surround sounds capability. (Audio also available in Dolby Digital 5.1 in English as well as French)
BONUS FEATURES:
Deleted scenes; Adapting a Timeless Masterpiece: Making The Reader; A Conversation with David Kross & Stephen Daldry; Kate Winslet on the Art of Aging Hanna Schmitz; A New Voice: A Alook at Composer Nico Muhly; Coming to Grips With the Past" Production Designer Brigitte; Theatrical trailer
