What's OVA You Ask?

OVA is a term originating from Japanese animation (anime) for animated films and series made especially for release in home-video formats. The majority are released direct-to-video, without prior showings on TV or in theatres, however, there may be very rare occasions where, for example, the first part of an OVA series is broadcast for promotional purposes. OVA titles were originally made available on VHS, later becoming more popular on LaserDisc and eventually DVD. ~ Wikipedia

Valkyrie is a princess from Planet Valhalla, you know, from the Dolphin Constellation (duh). When she finds out her Father has planned a political marriage for her without her consent she runs away, crash landing her ship on Earth, almost killing a young man named Kazuto Tokino. In order to save Kazuto Valkyrie kisses him, transferring a part of her soul, and in turn becomes trapped inside of a child’s body. The only way for her to regain her adult form is to kiss Kazuto which reunites her soul with its other half but it only lasts for a short time. Eventually she falls for Kazuto and the two plan to get married. Surrounded by other Valhallan’s who have come to Earth, and struggling to save a bath house that has long been in Kazuto’s family, the two love birds must find a way to make their relationship work. Based on the manga of the same name created by manga group Kaishaku (Steel Angel Kurumi).

Once you get passed the odd storyline and the awkwardness of naked anime guys and girls and uh….aliens, the show is hilarious. It’s a romantic comedy with a bit of silly action in it but its really a series you can throw on and give half your attention to while you do something else or just sit back and relax and enjoy. There is no over analyzing dialogue that has plagued some of the animes’ that I have seen over the years which just makes the story drag. Your given some whacky opening and the show just runs with it, sometimes drifting, but always keeping an enjoyable humor about it. For those who are easily offended or turned off by nudeness, yes its not really a useful tool for the plot of the shows, other then the fact that Kazuto does run a bath house so welcome to nakedsville, but at times it does play a part in telling a story or setting up a joke. Honestly there isn’t all that much of it in there anyway. Great characters, hilarious voice over work, and great illustration and animation. Definitely worth checking into even for a quick laugh.

Bonus features include clean opening and ending title sequences for both season 3 & 4, English and Japanese audio options w/ subtitles, as well as some pretty excellent trailers that may or may not get you hooked on some pretty awesome looking animes’. (I confess I got a little hyped by some of them). Other then that you get 200 minutes of great laughs. Enjoy.
