Yep, that’s right. Flakes is basically an ode to the breakfast of champions, whether your meal of choice is Freakies or Boo Berry. Stanford plays the manager of Flakes and Deschanel is his girlfriend who is trying to spur him on to better things, namely finishing his first “incendiary” album of greatness. Things get complicated when an enterprising businessman named Stuart comes to Flakes, at first for the allure, only to later propose that they start franchising the idea.
When their righteous indie indignation prevents them from accepting such an idea, Stuart proceeds to open the “New Original Flakes” right across the street. A battle for supremacy ensues and the victor, well, you’ll just have to watch to find out.
As I said before, it’s not without its flaws, but this is enjoyable little movie in its own right. The DVD doesn’t feature much beyond the film itself…deleted scenes and the trailer and that’s it. Oh and did I mention that Christopher Lloyd also stars as the owner of the true original Flakes. He’s basically a special feature himself. Good stuff. Check it out if you’re in the mood for something quirky.
