For One More Day is based on the book of the same title written by Mitch Albom. Former baseball player Charles “Chick” Benetto (Michael Imperioli) is a lonely and suicidal alcoholic. As a kid, he tried his best to impress his father, but now he realizes his deceased mother Posey (Ellen Burstyn) was the only one who always loved him no matter what, and that she was the person he should have listened to and loved back. Imagine if Chick could spend one more day with his mom who can give him the advice and love that he needs. Will he be able to change?
This drama has the typical characteristics of a made-for-TV movie and a predictable plot; however, the acting is much better than in an average TV movie. The casting director did an awesome job. While Ellen Burstyn brilliantly portrays a mother who loves her son unconditionally, Michael Imperioli’s performance is equally good. The depressing story transforms into a life-learning experience because of their passionate acting. Furthermore, there is an undeniable and convincing bond between Burstyn and Imperioli, as mother and son.
For One More Day is a predictable mother-son relationship film, yet it makes the audience think and talk about how to cope with the death of a loved one, and it has lessons of caring, sharing, loving, forgiveness and hope. If you are a fan of Hallmark, Lifetime channel, Mitch Albom's books or Opera’s book club, you will enjoy this.
