She decides that her life isn’t exactly where she wants it to be so she makes a New Years resolution; Beth picks twelve things she wants to improve in her life and then decides she will find a self help guru in each field and devote a month to each of them.
The book was filled with famous gurus from Richard Simmons to John Gray and even psychic Silvia Browne. All the names of the guru’s I have heard but I really didn’t know too much about their programs or what they preached, so it was somewhat interesting to read a quick account of what they each stand for. Beth went to seminars, read books, and even went on a Richard Simmons cruise. She gives an account of each event and how much each had cost and how she used the information in her life.
I mostly read fiction and this book was different and hard for me to get into. It was kind of like watching one of those movies that go nowhere but you keep watching hoping that it has a really great ending, but they never do. Throughout the entire book I just kept thinking about all the money that Beth spent and the fact that her and her husband did not work steadily. How does one spend thousands of dollars with no job and a child to take care of? I would recommend this book to someone who has bought or has gone to a couple of the seminars’ mentioned in this book, I can imagine you could relate more to the author and you might enjoy reading this.
