She handles her crushes, insecurities, and frustrations by writing in her journal about her alter ego Is that manages to handle every situation with ease. Then one day her journal is accidentally turned into a writing contest and wins. Soon Jamie and Is are boosted to popularity and famous as the book is published and becomes a best seller. But as more of Is comes through in Jamie she abandons her friends, gets a big head, and soon turns into what she was fighting against. She will have to get control of Is before Is takes control of her.
The movie is cute and having sisters Kay’s (Jamie) real life sister Danielle as Is was a good move. The story may not be the most realistic one with all the students reading Jamie’s book and how quickly her fame comes; but I think that it does capture some things that many younger girls struggle with like popularity and being made fun of. Also even though the characters are in high school this movie is probably best for tweens and younger.
“Read It And Weep Zapped Edition” did air on the Disney Channel and I’m sure many have seen it. You will be glad to hear that the DVD has even more for fans. You can learn more about Kay and Danielle Panabaker with their behind the scenes interview, or more about the movie with the making of feature. Also for fun you have Jordan Pruitt’s video for “Outside Looking In” and a feature where you can learn which cast member keep journals.
