Not only did Next Level make this
game from multiple inspirations, but they introduced a
new Co-op play. With Friend or Foe’s Drop in/Drop out
system, the game can be switched from single player
(with computer controlling the second person) to co-op
or back to single player at any time during the game.
If someone needs to leave or doesn’t want to play, they
can just “drop out” and their player will be taken over
by the CPU.
The main story is that Spider-Man’s Nemeses have all
been kidnapped and put under mind control. While under
mind control, they are forced to commit crimes and be
evil, the standard villain stuff. The twist here is that
after Spider-man defeats the villain and removes the
mind control device, that villain becomes an Ally and
can now be selected for the second player to play as.
Being able to switch between characters helped to keep
the game play fresh and new. As far as game play goes, I
found this button-mashing combo game play to be fun, but
quite repetitive. When playing multiplayer the game
felt more fun, but each user will experience something
different based on who they are playing with.
As far as graphics and sound go, the game is reminiscent
of the Spider-Man cartoon. The game has a cartoon
appearance and cheesy Saturday-morning cartoon dialog.
The sound effects also seem very fitting, and overall I
think the look, sound, and feel of the game was well
done and a great amount of fun. I definitely recommend
checking this out.
