This one doesn’t bother so much with genuinely interesting content so much as it tries to out extreme previous stories. A crack team of nefarious bad guys kill the former first lady (who apparently was looked on as a goddess in this version of America) and take hostage the rich and powerful who attend her funeral service in a NYC church. Then the negotiator comes in and a chillingly dull cat and mouse game is put in play. Then I fall asleep because this whole thing is generic.

I’m not a big fan of books on audio in general but this one isn’t too bad on a technical level. The recording quality is high and each disc is as easy to navigate if you have any reason to jump about. John Slattery and Reg Rogers put a modest effort towards the reading of Crack but ultimately are about as engaging as the story itself, which is to say not very. This might be useful if you’re going to be on a plane for 14 hours and would rather not spend the whole of that time flipping through a Skymall catalogue. The case suggests a retail price of $30 but I’d only rate its value at $15-$20.
