Title: Drag Me to Hell Genre: Horror Starring: Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Lorna Raver, David Paymer Director: Sam Raimi Studio: Ghost House Pictures Runtime: 98 minutes In Theatres: May 29, 2009 MPAA Rating: Rating: () Grade: D- It's been 22 years since Sam Raimi directed a horror film (Evil Dead 2) and with Drag Me to Hell it shows. Perhaps he should stick to his superhero films instead. Honestly, I would rather be dragged to hell itself than watch this film again. Christine Brown is a loans officer battling for the position of assistant manager at her local office. Everything seems to be going swell until Mrs. Ganush begs her to grant one more extension. In order to show her boss that she can make 'the tough decisions' Christine denies this old woman her request and becomes cursed. She now has three days to break this curse before the Lamia comes to drag her soul to Hell. Even categorizing this film as horror is difficult. There were no real frightening moment and every time something scary was supposed to happen, I ended up covering my mouth, trying not to laugh. One of the biggest concerns I had was Justin Long attempting a more serious role. After watching the film, that was the least of my worries. It was utterly ridiculous and could not be taken seriously. It started off decent but once the first encounter with Christine and Mrs. Ganush occurs, it's downhill from there. Yes, I am aware of Raimi's unique comedy/horror style of the Evil Dead series but those were rather enjoyable. Drag Me to Hell tries too hard to be like those and falls flat on its face. The one credit I give to the film are some of the effects, specifically the dragging to hell you see in the beginning. That, coupled with the blood curdling scream of someone, was the highlight of the film. Seeing some old lady fool around with her fake teeth and vomit who knows how many times? Not so much. I guess the moral of the film is that you should be careful when doing your job, after all, you might just get cursed and dragged to Hell to burn for all eternity. |

Movie Screening
I saw the movie last night, and I thought it was pretty good. The ending was questionable. I'll rate that movie a ***. Thank you so much for allowing my daughter and me to attend the screening.
"Drag Me to Hell"
This film was hilarious in spots. I put it on the same level as Exorcist II, Poltergeist II and the like. It was fun, and I'm happy to have won the pass from Shakefire!!
I walked away with a t-shirt and movie poster anyhow.
Thank you Shakefire!!
Drag me to Hell
I typically don't view "scarry" movies, but I took a chance on this one. It's was unexpected but I was actually laughing in this one. It's a movie I wouldn't want to pay for so I'm glad I won a pass. This is actually a funny movie. Who would have thought. Thanks for the pass.

Who said, “It was scary!”?
It was funny for sure,,, not the funniest but funny. I liked it but wasn’t the best of Sam Raimi.
