"New York, I Love You" is a collection of short segments directed by many different directors that are all tied together in their theme of love in the Big Apple. Following the acclaimed "Paris Je T'aime," this movie is the second in a series of films producer Emmanuel Benbihy calls "Cities of Love." The movie itself is packed full of familiar faces, some of whom even take a directing role for some of the segments. Expect to see the likes of Hayden Christensen, Shia Lebouf, Natalie Portman (who also directs a segment), Kevin Bacon, Maggie Q, and many more stars of all calibers.

As many of you probably know, I myself moved to New York City only a few months ago, after falling in love with the sights and sounds of the city. Naturally, I was drawn immediately to the prospect of "New York, I Love You." I'd heard of "Paris Je T'aime" before, but to this day still have not seen it. I love the concept of many intertwining stories and I feel that New York is a great setting for that type of storytelling, simply from the sheer amount of things that are going on in the city at any given time. The movie takes place all over the city, in such beloved locations as Central Park, Tribeca, China Town, and even the famous 4th St basketball courts right outside the sublet I was living in over the summer! Some segments are quite long, stretching the different plot points throughout the entirety of the movie, while others are so short you may miss it completely if you go to the bathroom.

Of course, with so many different directors (I think 11), each segment has a different style and artistic expression. Some were ridiculously cute and adorable, others hilarious in the antics of their characters, still others were just downright odd. I still don't really "get" what the point of Shia Lebouf's segment was, but maybe I'm just not artsy enough. I think the format of the movie fit perfectly, though for me I found it a little difficult to fully follow each segments' plotline as we continuously shift through so many of them, especially those with intertwining characters. Overall, I'd definitely say that the movie is worth seeing and keeps your attention throughout the whole movie. I think it would have been fun to see the characters mix a little more, with more than just "cameo" appearances in the different segments, but I'm sure with differing directors that may have been tough to accomplish. I would definitely not classify this movie as a chick flick, so guys, this may be a great date movie that is sure to have something for all types... just like New York!

NY, I Love You

This is another boring movie. It's just a bunch of little stories packed into one movie. Some are a little more fun to watch than others, but most are pretty lame.

I love NY, but not "NY, I Love You"

I could not wait for the movie to be over. This is like watching an ADD personality, one story after the next every minute, with no beginnning or no end. And who says this is a love story? There are at least 2 deaths in the movie, 1 from alcohol poisoning, 1 from jumping off a balcony. There is a wife being ignored by her husband. There is an unhappy worker being yelled at by her boss. There is a lonely singer, once famous. On and on, like Christopher said, about 11 of unconnected stories (I didn't count and didn't bother). Coincidentally, one of the stars in this movie is Robin Wright Penn, who also appeared in the movie Nine Lives, that is a lot like this movie.
