Show: Eagleheart Season/Volume: 1 Genre: Comedy Starring: Chris Elliott, Maria Thayer, Michael Gladis, Brett Gelman Studio: Cartoon Network Runtime: 132 minutes Release Date: April 3, 2012 Format: DVD Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: C Chris Elliott heads up Eagleheart, a parody of Walker, Texas Ranger and other cop shows. He plays US Marshall Chris Monsanto and he fights crime along with his two partners, by the book Susie and slow witted Brett. Together they tackle art thieves, smugglers, con artists and kidnappers, and they do it with an excessive amount of violence. Elliott is well known for his offbeat style of comedy, and Eagleheart is no different. It also isn't very good. Most of the time, the show is just weird. Such as, the pilot episode in which Marshall Monsanto faces off against Vargas, a crime lord who has killed a number of Monsanto's previous partners. Later, he discovers that Vargas wasn't killed in the shootout, but instead is in a hospital suffering from brain damage. Chris wants revenge but can't kill a man who doesn't remember what he's done, so Chris decides to help rehab him first and only when Vargas reveals he's been faking his brain damage does Monsanto get his revenge. Only Vargas really does have brain damage and was only faking remembering to make Chris happy. It sounds funny when I write it out, but on the screen is plays more absurd with intentionally poor acting (I've seen all these actors do better, so I assume the quality is part of the parody). The DVD set contains all 12 episodes of season one, which since it is a part of Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network where each episode is less than 15 minutes, the whole season runs just over 2 hours. Also on the disc are a bunch of extras: deleted scenes, outtakes, a panel from the New York Comic Con, a kill reel, promos, scenes from the original pilot (which was a very different show) and commentary tracks. If you are a fan of the show, this DVD set is a must-have. But for me, Eagleheart just wasn't my cup of tea. |
