Show: Kenichi The Mightiest Disciple Season/Volume: Season 1 Part 2 Genre: Anime Studio: Funimation Runtime: 312 minutes Release Date: June 16, 2009 Format: DVD Discs: 2 Rating: () Grade: A- Bonus Features Trailers and Textless Songs In order to take his training to the next level and possibly catch a glimpse of Miu undressed Kenichi moves into the dojo. Unfortunately this fact is brought up to the school and Miu, Kenichi and the rest of the dojo must put on a show so people think Miu lives in a normal household. Kenchi will put his training to the test as Ragnarok is still in pursuit and are willing to do anything to put Kenichi and Miu in their places, even interrupt a school play. As the battles rage, the training continues and girls bounce around the Hermit is finally unmasked and will truly give Kenichi a fight for his life. I am coming around to this anime more and more as I watch. Sure there are big breasted women in very little clothing bouncing around at times and Kenichi can get a little annoying with his obsession with Miu; but there is still substance. The masters present a variety of characters from the pervy Kensei Ma, the ninja of few words Shigure, or the sweet slow strong Apachai. Somehow the very different personalities play off of each other well. There is also a nice mixture of action to comedy. The show takes places primarily in two locations the dojo and the school (though there are things that happen outside of the two). In school you get to witness Miu and Kenichi attempt to fit in, deal with crushes, bullies, and extracurricular activities. Back at the dojo it is training session after training session; while it can get a little monotonous there are often visitors and the household dynamics to add something new. The animation is the basic anime style, big eyes, spiky hair, when shocked or sad big tear/sweat drops coming down the face and the eyes turning in to black dots. But I still find Shigure to be very cute along with her mouse. Curious? Check out the official site because trust me if you like action anime but don’t want all the drama/dark haunting past that many of the main characters have Kenchi could be right for you.
