Show: Reba Season/Volume: Season 3 Starring: Reba McEntire, Steve Howey, Joanna Garcia, Christopher Rich, Melissa Peterman Studio: 20th Century Fox Runtime: 496 minutes Release Date: April 25, 2006 Format: DVD Discs: 3 Rating: () Grade: B- I have never seen this show until this box set so I came in and immediately got that Reba’s husband left her for his younger assistant, her teenage daughter had a child and her & the dad live with Reba, meanwhile her ex-husband and new wife live pretty much next door. So now that I was caught up on the first 2 seasons, season 3 had Reba’s younger daughter Kyra moving out to live with her father, Brock thinks about selling his dental practice and becoming a professional golfer, the whole family participates in a communication workshop, and Cheyenne & Van think about moving out. There is also commentary on episodes Fight or Flight, Happy Pills, Core Focus, Spies Like Reba, and To Tell The Truth and to features Matters of the Hart and Melissa’s Backstage Diary. Now it appears there are several ways to take this show. With some of the matters it deals with such as teenage pregnancy and divorce it opens doors that some may be uncomfortable with or do not want their children seeing. However in my opinion I didn’t see it as a pro teenage sex campaign. Instead I thought they tackled a problem that is out there in the world today and showing some of the repercussions for it and that while it caused some problems in the family that family love is unconditional. My suggestion would be if you don’t even want to have this situation put in front of you then don’t watch Reba. Now as far as the rest of the show goes, I wasn’t too sure about this one before watching. But after seeing it I did enjoy it. There is humor ranging from sarcastic comments from Reba and Kyra to more slapstick stupidity coming from Van and Barbara Jean. Teamed with the comedy it does have its “family moments” where a problem is addressed and often tied up in a neat little package of wisdom. I think what I liked most about this show though is that while it is a slightly family oriented sitcom ala Full House, it tackles problems that are a little more risky. Obviously this isn’t one for all the masses; but for fans it can provide a welcome look into a family that is more dysfunctional than your own. |
