Show: The Simpsons Season/Volume: 20 Genre: Comedy Starring: Dan Castellaneta, Nancy Cartwright, Julie Kavner, Yeardley Smith Studio: 20th Century Fox Runtime: 482 mins Release Date: January 12, 2010 Format: DVD Discs: 4 Rating: ( )Grade: B+ There’s not much that I can say about The Simpsons that hasn’t already been said by those much more eloquent than myself, so let’s just jump straight into the review, shall we? For some reason, Fox decided to leap over seasons 13-19 and is releasing season 20 next week. I don’t know that it really matters one way or another, but I’m curious to know the reasoning behind it. I assume that they’ll get around to releasing the seven skipped-over seasons at some point. Just seems like a strange choice… At any rate, this four-disc set is packed with the episodes and special features that Simpsons fans are now accustomed to getting on these season sets. I’d argue that the show remains funny, even after all these years. Yes, only time will tell if episodes from the more recent seasons are as “classic” as the ones from say seasons six to ten (the main seasons that are references as the show’s heyday). But I think the writers have done a good job keeping the show current, goofy, funny and satirical. It might not have the non-stop non-sequiturs of Family Guy or the ruthless (and potty-mouthed) skewering of South Park, but that doesn’t negate the show’s core sense of humor. In short, this is another solid season from our favorite yellow family. If you love them, then you’ve got another DVD set to add to your collection. And if not? Well you have no soul. Good day! |
