Show: The Spectacular Spider-Man Season/Volume: 7 Genre: Action/Adventure, Kids Starring: Josh Keaton, Lacey Chabert, Joshua LeBar, Grey DeLisle, James Arnold Taylor Studio: Sony Pictures Runtime: 66 mins Release Date: February 16, 2010 Format: DVD Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: B- Let’s get down to brass tacks. You already know my opinion on these three-episode DVDs. Oh you don’t? Well just click here. Done with that? Now take that and apply it to this one. Substitute in storylines with Tombstone, the New Enforcers, Hammerhead, Silvermane, and Silver Sable and you’ve got the general idea of what’s covered in this volume. Once again the multiple storylines are handled with great aplomb. There’s even an episode (“Gangland”) that takes place in and around an opera house on Valentine’s Day. The fight scenes are choreographed to the music from the opera and it’s done surprisingly well for a TV cartoon. That’s not to disparage the world of animation by any stretch. I love animated stories and it can be a terrific medium for superb storytelling. I was simply pleasantly surprised to see something this solid from a TV “kids” cartoon. Someone’s been watching his old Looney Tunes. So as before, this is a great series for the Spidey fan, but I can’t recommend it solely on the basis of the price you’re charged for only three episodes. Wait for the full season 2 release. |
