Lucia is a member of the Venus Vanguard, an underground group that fights against viruses and hopes to one day stop them. She has a great mysterious power in her left eye but keeps it covered with an eye patch since use of it drains her of strength. She is haunted by the death of her mother and memories of her difficult childhood.

Sumire is a young student that is quiet, and is always rushing around to make sure she is not late for work at Lucia’s shop. Sumire is one of the few that can see the viruses and is scared of their presence. However when she comes into contact with the vaccine used to kill viruses her personality alters. She becomes stronger and can defeat the viruses with her bare hands, the only problem is Sumire is unable to control who she will attack.

Together Lucia and Sumire fight together with occasional guidance from Nahashi a friend of Lucia’s mother and help from Lola a strange little girl that loves chocolate. The viruses that are plaguing the world are similar to demons and take on many forms, they often posses humans.

This is an interesting anime. At first I was sure it was going to blend into the pack of good vs. evil storylines or be a more comedic version of “xxxHolic”. After watching though it has things that make it standout. Lucia is tough; but as the story unfolds you see her past and why she is the way she is giving her a softer side that you can sympathize with. On the other hand the shy, soft spoken, meek Sumire begins to develop strength.

The back story of Lucia’s mother Lilith and her father Lucif is interesting and I wish that they supplied you with more of it though they do finish everything you need to know. The action isn’t too bad, but I think it could have been much stronger. Most fights have Lucia holding her own against a virus then for one reason or another Sumire changes and has to finish it off. With as strong as Lucia is suppose to be I would have love to see that more in her fighting skills. Lola is also another that I would have loved to see more about. In truth I think that is my biggest complaint about this series, it being too short. They easily could have made it into several seasons; but at the very least I wish there were more than just 12 episodes. Sure the story is finished; but if it was even just a tiny bit longer the past and secondary characters could have been further developed giving this story something that would have made it truly standout.
