Mark Burnett (Survivor) and History Channel present Expedition: Africa. Take four explorers, each with their own experiences and skills to contribute to the group, and have them follow the trail of Henry Morton Stanley, a journalist who ventured deep into Africa to track down missing icon Dr. David Livingstone. These four explorers, with the help of their of their Masai warrior guides and local porters, must try to accomplish what took Stanley three months in only one. Personalities clash and dangers lurk everywhere in this brutal land but the expedition is determined to make it. Find out if they find success or peril in this new series starting Sunday, May 31st at 10 PM ET/PT.

Meet the explorers:

Pasquale Scaturro:

Pasquale has made various trips to the very tip of Mount Everest, his most noteworthy trek involving Erik Weihenmayer, a blind but experienced climber who reached the top of Mount Everest with Pasquale’s help.

Mireya Mayor:

A noted Wildlife expert who has traveled to the most unseen regions of this planet and been responsible for the discovery of a new animal species in Madagascar.

Benedict Allen:

This rugged explorer is torn straight from the big screen, an Indian Jones type who has witnessed hardships in the Amazon and even been targeted by Pablo Escobar and had a hitman on his trail at one point. Allen may come to be most noted as the explorer who, on one expedition, was forced to eat his own dog for survival.

Kevin Sites:

A journalist who has seen the ravages of war torn Iraq and been held captive as a prisoner of war. Sites is the least experienced on the trail but has qualities that can help unite the group as well as inspire the porters and guides on their adventure.

Why will you fall in love with this show? I think its fairly simple. Everyone loves a good adventure but not many have the audacity to pick up and leave everything behind to travel to a far off and distant land, to weather the hardships of an unfamiliar region, to risk their own lives in the pursuit of new experience. Expedition transports you to the wilds of Africa and places you, in a sense, in harms way. You get to know the explorers and join them in their most perilous adventures. Will they fall victim to snakes, lions, malnutrition, dehydration? Can they scale the unpredictable mountain terrains, manage through the dry scorching deserts, overcome the muddy bogs and swamps that threaten their gear and their own persons? Not only is it exhilarating and thrilling and real its also a platform that opens up a world to you that you would have otherwise never seen or experienced. The explorers do a fantastic job though action or inaction of offering up some truly spectacular scenarios and sights. Mark Burnett and History Channel have outdone themselves here. My advice. See this show.
