Show: WCG Ultimate Gamer Episode(s): 1 Genre: Reality Network: Sci-Fi Airdate/Time: March 10, 2009 10:00pm Rating: () Grade: A- Video games are becoming more and more mainstream these days. A new reality show, hosted by the World Cyber Games and the Sci-Fi network, pits the top games from across the US against each other in a battle for $100,000 and the face of the WCG. The show is split up into two sections, the real life challenge and the isolation chamber. Once a game is chosen, contestants will have to engage in a real life simulation of said game. Then they will face each other in the game itself. Gamers are ranked on the leaderboard depending on how well they do in both, with the person in last place being sent off to face elimination. There they will go up against someone of the top gamer's choice. The winner gets to return to the household while the loser goes home. The premiere episode features Rock Band 2 as the game of choice and the contestants must learn to play on a real life stage in front of a crowd, essentially bringing the game to life. The show is pretty much like all other reality tv shows except it revolves around video games. All the contestants, both male and female, live together in a giant house, sorta like The Real World. They are called to challenges and there is even drama among them, after all, why reality tv show doesn't have drama? I'm sure there will also be a few surprises thrown in the later episodes to keep things interesting. All the contestants have their own specialty, most of which are shooters but there are racing, fighting, and rhythm experts as well. Then there is Robert Paz, who is known as being the best gamer out there supposedly. If there's a person to hate on the show, it's him. He is cocky and doesn't seem to take anything seriously. He doesn't even practice like the rest of the people. If the show were called Ultimate Tool, he would win, hands down. I enjoy how they incorporate real life combined with video games. Stunt car driving, paintball, karate; all look like they will play their part in the real life challenge. As someone who's not much of a reality television fan, I would actually watch this show. I enjoy video games and WCG Ultimate Gamer does a decent job at targeting that audience. |
