Journey from his childhood, through a difficult marriage, the struggle to make his music his way, and to finding the love of his life. Drugs, alcohol, deaths, and jail may have slowed him down; but the love for his music kept him going.
Needless to say that this was a wonderful touching movie. Joaquin and Reese performed beautifully and sing beautifully together. The widescreen release is a little disappointing having only commentary with director James Mangold and 10 deleted scenes. Have no fear though there is also a 2 disc Collector’s Edition out as well. It contains the same deleted scenes and commentary; but you also get the trailer, 3 extended music scenes (Rock and Roll Baby, Jackson, & Cocaine Blues), a making of (with interviews from Rosanne Cash, John Mellencamp, Willie Nelson, & more), Folsom Cash and the Comeback feature, and Ring of Fire the Passion of Johnny and June feature. The 2 discs is the clear choice when going to pick this up. If you have not seen this film yet I don’t think you will be disappointed. They do not sugar coat anything and you are presented with the real Johnny Cash flaws and merits attached.
