There are all different types of animals. Some that work with humans, some that are starting to depend on humans, and others that have suffered because of humans. Plus you will also get a first, the mating of pandas. You get several short little summaries of the history of China along with glimpses at different lifestyles of the inhabitants.
The footage is gorgeous. It is truly amazing how up close they are able to get to so many of the animals and were able to capture many of their normal activities. China is absolutely breathtaking and diverse with its mountains, deserts, jungles, rivers, and cities. And while there were many areas I would have love to see more about “Wild China” manages to give each a admirable amount of time. There is also time spent on taking a look at China’s efforts to preserve and repair their environment.
If you enjoy the Discovery Channel, love beautiful scenery, or even just have an interest in nature or travel this is certainly one to check out. Two disc and 353 minutes of fantastic footage, that is easy to watch in one sitting or to keep coming back too. They also released this on Blu-Ray which I am wanting to see as I feel that quality will do “Wild China” the most justice. Bonus features: “Hunting Dragons” which takes a look at how “Wild China” was shot.
