Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968.

In Marvel’s “Iron Man 3,” Tony Stark/Iron Man finds his world reduced to rubble by a malevolent enemy and must use his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him as he seeks to destroy the enemy and his cohorts.

Iron Man gets a third outing fresh from his team-up with The Avengers in this Marvel Studios production. Robert Downey Jr. once again stars, with Shane Black helming from a script he cowrote with Drew Pierce that takes it's cues from Warren Ellis' Extremis comic mini-series. Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, and Rebecca Hall join the returning cast of Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle.

Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List is an amazing film. Its black and white imagery (colored in at times for incredible moments of reflection), its passionate performances, its no holds barred look the atrocities of the Holocaust. It was a statement and an inspiration that opened the doors to a broader look at the Holocaust and WWI, guided by Spielberg through projects like Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Universal has teamed with Spielberg to bring you, what I believe to be, the definitive version of the film. Newly restored in HD, Schindler’s List has never looked so amazingly beautiful.

PICTURE QUALITY:

I figured that when Schindler’s List came to Blu-Ray it would look amazing. When a studio takes a black and white film and truly gives it the royal treatment, your going to find yourself with a fantastic picture (see The Maltese Falcon on BD). The Schindler’s List transfer, overseen by Spielberg himself, is pristine in all aspects of its BD restoration. If I had any reservations they were quickly diminished by this well polished gem. Sound is perfect, image is grand. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Don’t over think this purchase, just go get it.

BONUS FEATURES:

The only new bonus features to be found are an Ultraviolet copy of the film and a digital copy on iTunes. The rest of the bonus features are the same as the previous DVD release.

Ben Kingsley was born in England. His father, Rahimtulla Harji Bhanji, was of Gujrati descent. Ben began to act in stage plays during the 1960s. He soon became a successful stage actor, and also began to have roles in films and TV. His birth name was Krishna Bhanji - but he changed his name to "Ben Kingsley" soon after gaining fame as a stage actor, fearing that a foreign name could hamper his acting career.

Ben Kingsley first earned international fame for his performance in the 1982 movie, Gandhi (1982). His performance as "Mohandas Gandhi" earned him international fame. He won many awards - including an Oscar for Best Actor. He also won Golden Globe, BAFTA and London Film Critics' Circle Awards. After acting in Gandhi (1982), Ben was recognized as one of the finest British actors.

After his international fame for appearing in Gandhi (1982), Kingsley appeared in many other famous movies. His success as an actor continued. In 1993, his performance as "Itzhak Stern" in the movie, Schindler's List (1993) earned him a BAFTA nomination. Schindler's List (1993) won seven Oscars, including Best Picture. During the late 1990s, Kingsley acted in many successful movies. He played "Sweeney Todd" in the 1998 TV movie, The Tale of Sweeney Todd (1997) (TV). For his performance in this movie, he was nominated for the Screen Actors' Guild Award. His other notable role was as "Otto Frank" in the TV movie "Anne Frank: The Whole Story" (2001), for which he won a Screen Actors' Guild Award.

Ben Kingsley lives in Spelsbury, Oxfordshire, in England.

Schindler's List

Based on a true story, Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List stars Liam Neeson as Oskar Schindler, a German businessman in Poland who sees an opportunity to make money from the Nazis' rise to power. He starts a company to make cookware and utensils, using flattery and bribes to win military contracts, and brings in accountant and financier Itzhak Stern (Ben Kingsley) to help run the factory. By staffing his plant with Jews who've been herded into Krakow's ghetto by Nazi troops, Schindler has a dependable unpaid labor force. For Stern, a job in a war-related plant could mean survival for himself and the other Jews working for Schindler. However, in 1942, all of Krakow's Jews are assigned to the Plaszow Forced Labor Camp, overseen by Commandant Amon Goeth (Ralph Fiennes), an embittered alcoholic who occasionally shoots prisoners from his balcony. Schindler arranges to continue using Polish Jews in his plant, but, as he sees what is happening to his employees, he begins to develop a conscience. He realizes that his factory (now refitted to manufacture ammunition) is the only thing preventing his staff from being shipped to the death camps. Soon Schindler demands more workers and starts bribing Nazi leaders to keep Jews on his employee lists and out of the camps. By the time Germany falls to the allies, Schindler has lost his entire fortune -- and saved 1,100 people from likely death. Schindler's List was nominated for 12 Academy Awards and won seven, including Best Picture and a long-coveted Best Director for Spielberg, and it quickly gained praise as one of the finest American movies about the Holocaust.
