Walker Stalker Con Atlanta 2014: Day 3 - Escape

By Sunday, the last and final day of Walker Stalker Con, my transformation into a walker myself was almost complete. My day would consist of gathering the remainder of poster signatures and taking more pictures of the convention. Things were no doubt winding down. The hallways were less crowded (still pretty packed), and the lines appeared shorter. Granted that may just be the mindless zombie in me talking.

The most noteworthy thing I saw on Sunday occurred while I was waiting in line for The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder, the final A-list signature I needed. Naturally, the lines were massive, filled with fans wanted just a glimpse of him. Some had already been there hours and there was one person who actually fainted when Ian finally showed up and medics had to be brought to the scene. It was a pretty chaotic experience and while his signing ended up getting delayed, fans still waited to meet him.

That’s what these conventions do; they give die-hard fans the opportunity to see some of their favorite actors. Sure, it might cost an arm and a leg, but to many it’s absolutely worth it. Thousands showed up to Walker Stalker Con this year, and there’s a reason why they’ve spread to other cities including New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas, Orlando, and Boston.

I ended the convention with more than 35 signatures from actors from The Walking Dead, The Vampire Diaries, and a bunch of other shows and films. Hopefully we’ll be able to raise a pretty penny for St. Jude’s this year. Be sure to stay tuned for details on how you’ll be able to own this amazing one-of-a-kind poster.

As the sun began to get lower and lower in the sky, crowds thinning, I stumbled out into the streets. It was the end of Walker Stalker Con. There were some missteps, but is any convention absolutely perfect? Overall I would say I had a great time. I got to meet some amazing people, chat with adoring fans, and be a part of horror culture.
