Game of Thrones Season 7 to Premiere on July 16

Season 7 of Game of Thrones will premiere on July 16, 2017 the network revealed.

The announcement came during a Facebook Live event in which fans could watch a giant block of ice melt away to reveal the date. Typing 'FIRE' in the comments section would trigger a flamethrower to help melt the ice quicker. Game of Thrones has been teasing a battle of '"fire and ice" for quite some time now, as evident with their latest poster as well.

The main cast consists of Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, Aidan Gillen, Liam Cunningham, Carice van Houten, Indira Varma, Sophie Turner, Nathalie Emmanuel, Rory McCann, Maisie Williams, Conleth Hill, Alfie Allen, John Bradley, Gwendoline Christie, Kristofer Hivju, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Jerome Flynn, Iain Glen, and Hannah Murray.

Season 7 will consist of just seven episodes, three fewer than the typical 10 episodes of previous seasons. Showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have gone on record to say that they're ""down to our final 13 episodes after this season. We're heading into the final lap."
