Perception: Ch-ch-changes (PREVIEW)

“Perception” is an interesting show that is in its second season and can be seen on the TNT network on Tuesdays at 10pm. The show revolves around Dr. Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), who is a neuropsychiatric specialist that works closely with Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook) to solve cases for FBI. The twist is Dr. Pierce has several issues of his own making it sometimes a chore for him to distinguish reality from fiction. This show is a nice mix of criminal drama, crime scene investigation, and court room antics. They manage to take all the good parts of other hit shows and pack them into one. Shakefire had the chance to review one of the soon-to-be aired episodes entitled “Ch-ch-changes.”

Without giving away too many details about the episode, Special Agent Moretti is approached by someone in her past to request the services from Dr. Pierce for a special case. The defendant is a former biker gang member that appears to be a “totally different person” after an incident, but is on trial for a serious offense. The episode was unpredictable and the twists and turns were enough to keep me watching until the end to find what really happened in the crime in question. As for the show, the overall acting and writing for the show is pretty good, but the twist with Dr. Pierce sometimes got in the way of the superior storytelling. I liked the episode and there were more than enough unique qualities to the show to set it apart from other TV shows on the air today.

After watching this episode, I must admit that I am even more intrigued to find out what happens to Dr. Pierce. My mom is a huge fan of this TV show genre and I am more than willing to recommend she check out “Perception.” I just hope they are better able to tone down Dr. Pierce’s issues and blend it into the plot a bit better. Other than that, I enjoyed the show and do recommend checking out “Perception” if you enjoy watching “Law & Order,” “CSI,” or other crime dramas. For those reasons, I am giving this episode a “B+.”
