Bonus Episode: Angelina Ballerina: Angelina's New School
Hit Entertainment & Lionsgate presents Let’s Grow: Safety First, a compilation featuring Barney, Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam, Thomas & Friends, and is hosted by Sean and Chica from Sprout, the 24-hour preschool channel. The theme of this particular DVD is safety and covers plenty of ways for your children to play safely as well as learn about ways to keep the house, themselves, and their friends safe wherever they are. Let’s Grow: Safety First is available only on DVD.
Playing it safe is important for your children as they grow and venture further and further away from their family and home to explore other places such as parks, friends houses, and other locations that children may go for fun. Let’s Grow: Safety First offers up safety tips in abundance while giving your children the entertainment they would want to make it less of a lesson and more of a fun way to learn. The episodes in the collection deal with fire safety such as; fire alarms, how to evacuate a house in case of a fire, and the emergency numbers you should know in case of a fire or accident. You’ll also learn about car safety; being safe inside of a car by buckling up as well as looking both ways before crossing the street when your outside of the car and taking your time on your mobile transport such as a bike, roller-skates/rollerblades, scooter, or skateboard. Several characters learn, the hard way, that faster isn’t always safer and that there are safety guidelines to help you stay safe and avoid serious injury. Hosts Sean and Chica do a good job of further exploring these lessons and having a fun time in-between episodes to keep kids interested in seeing what happens in the next installment of the DVD.
As a parent I guess I would be nitpicking a bit but for a safety program there were a few discrepancies that I felt could have been adjusted before releasing the compilation. For example in the Kipper episode Kipper wears a helmet but not knee or arm pads and when he loans his skate to a friend they only wear a helmet and they do a lot of falling down. Kids might not understand the concept of knee and arm pads with this confusion. In the episode of Barney a fireman who is checking out the smoke alarms in the clubhouse shows the kids what happens when there is a fire alarm and sets off the fire alarm to show the kids what it sounds like. Anyone that has ever had the unfortunate luck to have a fire alarm go off due to smoke in the kitchen or steam from the bathroom you know its ear drum shattering loud and setting the alarm off next to the group of kids, well it seemed like the fireman should have warned the kids to cover their ears first. I know, I know. Little details, but that just stood out to me. Otherwise Hit Entertainment & Lionsgate do a great job of putting together yet another blueprint style DVD compilation to help kids get the information they need to grow.
