I never thought the format would still be around after all these years, let alone make up for a lot of must see TV. Along that same line I never thought a reality series that followed real life Ghost Hunters would last as long as this series has.</p> <p>This release is the first half of Season 8 and features more of the same, it even includes the departure of one of the founding members of the show. We follow the GH as they examine six separate cases that lead up to the final appearances of the departed member (not that everyone doesn’t know who it is by now.</p> <p>If you know me, you know that I don’t put to much stock into these supernatural reality shows. This time around I figured I’d just have a little fun and watch to see if anything extraordinary occurs and try not to overanalyze it.</p> <p>The crew head to mostly mild places where they capture noises that may or may not be voices, sounds that could be supernatural footsteps or ghostly movement, or could just be mice in the walls. I did enjoy one episode off the first disc where the crew go into a run down damn and capture an exceedingly large amount of movement and strange noises. In trying not to overanalyze the episode I put it to the back of my mind that the place looked rather open and could be host to any kind of animal that decided to wander in.</p> <p>There were quite a few funny moments, such as when two crew members head into a dark hallway and get freaked out over spiders, or when one cam handler gets side swiped by a bird. Another episode finds the crew investigating Bubie’s Brewery (pronounced boobies). The crew get it out of their system but you can’t help but giggle childishly when Grant asks if Grandpa Bubie is home or when the crew use the name excessively. Maybe that was their way of desensitizing the word before they entered the brewery.</p> <p>Fans of the show know what their getting into, and with so many other ghost shows, some even extending from this one, there’s hardly a soul (pun intended) that doesn’t know what their in for. Gets kind of old when you live in a house that loves this stuff and you see the same locations from the other shows reinvestigated by a different crew, but it is what it is. </p> </div></div></div><h1 id="page-title">Ghost Hunters</h1><div class="field field-name-field-season field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-inline clearfix"><div class="field-label">Season:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Season 8</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-picture field-type-image field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://shakefire.com/sites/default/files/styles/picture/public/reviews/51U4iX7XouL._SY300_.jpg?itok=jI6Qr_SM" width="640" height="901" alt="" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-starring field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Starring:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/talents/jason-hawes" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Jason Hawes</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/talents/grant-wilson" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Grant Wilson</a></div></div></div> Thu, 28 Mar 2013 01:26:04 +0000 AJ Garcia 45774 at http://shakefire.com http://shakefire.com/review/ghost-hunters-season-8-part-1#comments Ghost Hunters Academy http://shakefire.com/review/ghost-hunters-academy <div class="field field-name-field-review field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Review:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/reviews/tv-at-home/tv-on-dvd" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">TV on DVD</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-is-exclusive field-type-list-boolean field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Exclusive?:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-fact-title field-type-text field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Bonus Features</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-grade field-type-number-decimal field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Grade:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">1.75</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-random-fact field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>Never Before Seen Footage</p> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Tags:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/ghost-hunters-academy" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Ghost Hunters Academy</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/tags/jason-hawes" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Jason Hawes</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/susan-slaughter" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Susan Slaughter</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/tags/steve-gonsalves" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Steve Gonsalves</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/dave-tango" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Dave Tango</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/tags/karl-pfeiffer" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Karl Pfeiffer</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p><strong><em><u>GHOST HUNTERS ACADEMY:</u></em></strong><br /> Popular paranormal television show Ghost Hunters has taken on a new assignment, students. This school is very different than any other where the students get hands on experience of ghost hunting as they go from haunted location to haunted location. TAPS members Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango are the instructors in the craft of finding and explaining the unexplainable and it’s their job to teach the students how to become a true ghost hunter. If any of the students can prove themselves to be a good investigator they will get a spot on the TAPS team but if the ghosts are too much for them then they will be sent back home with only memories of what could have been.</p> <p><img width="300" height="199" alt="" src="http://img.poptower.com/pic-14867/ghost-hunters-academy.jpg?d=600" /></p> <p><strong><em><u>VERY ODD CLASSROOMS:</u></em></strong><br /> Really, did we need another so-called reality based show airing? Ghost Hunters Academy follows the hosts of Ghost Hunters as they try to teach a group of people how to be paranormal investigators. What we get in this show is like all those other so-called reality shows that pit the people on the show against each other. For years I always thought that when you had people going against each other for a prize at the end it was called a game show or get this, a contest, not a reality show. But that’s what Ghost Hunters Academy is, a show where the people on the show have to prove themselves to the hosts to get a spot on their team. If they can’t prove themselves then they get sent home and off the show with no job.</p> <p><img width="300" height="152" alt="" src="http://ghosttvblogs.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Ghost-Hunters-Academy-Students.JPG" /><br /> Maybe this was supposed to be different than others because the main goal on this show is the students finding evidence of paranormal activity. Ok, there are moments that they do find some odd noises but what they find is not the focus of this show, the contestants are. Where as in Ghost Hunters I’m watching a show that focuses on what might be found in the different locations, this show is putting the focus on how these students react to everything and everyone. Before Ghost Hunters held some interest, even though it was only a little, there was still the possibility of them finding some ghost or catching something on film and I would get to see it. There’s a slight possibility of that on Ghost Hunters Academy but it’s so little it don’t matter because now all the show does is follow people who lie, talk, forget, and are incompetent in what they are doing.</p> <p><img width="300" height="193" alt="" src="http://img.poptower.com/pic-27807/ghost-hunters-academy.jpg?d=600" /><br /> If I were in this class where the teachers/instructors showed up to tell me that I would be judged for a chance at getting a job a the end of it and then I’m taught the way they teach on this show I would have laughed and quit. Actually, I would have been upset and would have got in an argument with them because Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango don’t do anything to teach these people. They give them some information and tips but then send them on their way and then critique them at the end. That was not interesting, it’s not a good way to teach, and I was bored with watching this show even more so than I am with the regular Ghost Hunters show. Nothing ever happens in this show, the locations are locations that was on Ghost Hunters but now we get amateurs going around messing up because their nervous and don’t know what they are doing. Every episode is set up in the same manner where the beginning introduces where they are going, at the location the instructors tell them what they want, the students go off, they bumble around, they call out to the spirits (a lot), and then at the end they get critiqued by Steve and Dave. Having some leave the show, having a new guy joining, and having a new group start at the middle of the season where the first group ends didn’t do anything to help make this show interesting. But the very worst thing about this DVD set is not the show, it’s the packaging of the DVD’s. This 4 disc set is put in the case stacked up on each other with one peg holding them that broke as soon as I took the first disc off and when I put them back on it broke more. Now there’s just pieces of broken plastic not holding the discs but allowing them to move around to get scratched.<br />  </p> </div></div></div><h1 id="page-title">Ghost Hunters Academy</h1><div I got to say that the show has a good idea for what people would like to watch. And that's a show trying to prove that there are spirits/ghosts/voices or anything of the paranormal really do exists in our world. One minor flaw in this is that they never really prove it, not that I saw they did but I want 100% proof that there's a ghost before I got believing it. Then gain I did try to want to believe them and there where times that I did get the creepy feeling up my spine in the possibility, but when the show was over I didn't see any ghost or anything to make me believe there are ghosts.</p> <p><img width="400" height="225" alt="" src="http://www.syfy.com/_cache/images/assets/ghosthunters/2011-10/s07_e0717_01_131791948800___CC___685x386.jpg" /><br /> Now that might make it sound as if I liked the show, not really, I mean it has grown on me where I'm not tired of it before the first episode is only half over. But it still only took a few episodes before I got bored of watching Grant and Jason search for a ghost or trying to explain what's going on. The show just gets tiresome after watching the same thing over and over again even with the different locations nothing really changes. The group find a new location, they talk about it, they talk to the people that have had the experience or encounter, they walk around at night, everything is green, and then they find out that there wasn't a ghost. With every episode I was waiting for the action to really start but it never really does, even when they get freaked out, it only made me chuckle a few times and then wonder why I just spent those 40 minutes watching the show. Ghost Hunters might be growing on me but it still don't rank as one of the shows that I have to watch because with every episode I get what the last one was.</p> <p><img width="400" height="289" alt="" src="http://blogs.mcall.com/.a/6a00d8341c4fe353ef0162fd3dc56d970d-320wi" /><br /> Now I can't say the show is completely bad because there is one saving grace about it, the stories that come along with each location. It's the stories I like that get told during the episodes to explain what is going on with each location and it's supposed haunting. The stories are the most interesting parts to the show and is the driving force that kept me watching it. But let me tell you this, if these guys were able to prove without any doubt that ghosts or spirits do exist and are real in one of the episode, then not only will I have to eat my words but I'll probably become a fan of the show. However, the one thing that I just hate about this DVD set has nothing to do with the show itself but the packaging of the discs. I've said it before, and I might have mentioned it with my review for Part 1 of Season 7, that the DVD's come stacked on top of each other with no space between them. Before I was more worried about the disc rubbing on each other to cause scratches but I would rather had that then the way this set came to me. Inside the case where the prongs hold all 4 discs on top of each other was broke. So, instead of the discs sitting on top of each other they where flopping all around the case, sliding on each other and grinding on the broken pieces of plastic. If they packaged this with each disc being held on it's own then only 1 of them would been scuffed or scratched, but with them stacked, all 4 are now scratched.</p> <p> </p> </div></div></div><h1 id="page-title">Ghost Hunters</h1><div class="field field-name-field-season field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-inline clearfix"><div class="field-label">Season:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">7</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-talents field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Talent(s):&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/talents/grant-wilson" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Grant Wilson</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/talents/jason-hawes" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Jason Hawes</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-picture field-type-image field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://shakefire.com/sites/default/files/styles/picture/public/reviews/ghost-hunters-7.jpg?itok=Oe6Fe716" width="640" height="902" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-starring field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Starring:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/talents/grant-wilson" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Grant Wilson</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/talents/jason-hawes" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Jason Hawes</a></div></div></div> Thu, 22 Nov 2012 06:36:16 +0000 Lee Roberts 19084 at http://shakefire.com http://shakefire.com/review/ghost-hunters-season-7-part-2#comments Ghost Hunters: Season 7 Part 1 http://shakefire.com/review/ghost-hunters-season-7-part-1 <div class="field field-name-field-review field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Review:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/reviews/tv-at-home/tv-on-dvd" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">TV on DVD</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-is-exclusive field-type-list-boolean field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Exclusive?:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-fact-title field-type-text field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Bonus Features</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-grade field-type-number-decimal field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Grade:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">1.78</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-random-fact field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>Never Before Seen Bonus Footage</p> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Tags:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/ghost-hunters" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Ghost Hunters</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/tags/grant-wilson" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Grant Wilson</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/jason-hawes" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Jason Hawes</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/tags/season-7" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Season 7</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p><strong><em><u>GHOST HUNTERS:</u></em></strong><br /> They may have ordinary jobs by day as plumbers but at night Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes become the Ghost Hunters. Ghost Hunters is a show about a group of people going around to places that have a history of being haunted or to homes that supposedly have ghosts in them. There's not much more to the show then that, which is why this and many other shows continue to be aired because they are very cheap to make and they draw in viewers that gain them money. The show tries to be interesting with the way it's edited but I still can't get myself to like this show.</p> <p><img width="400" height="303" alt="" src="http://gnostalgia.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/gh-dogball.jpg" /><br /> Granted, Ghost Hunters has a decent premise for a show in trying to prove that there are spirits/ghosts that really do haunt the world. There's a slight problem with that though they never really prove it. At least not for me they don't. I tried to believe, there where times that the idea was creepy, but in the end all I saw was a show that had people walking around in the dark with night vision cameras whispering and freaking out cause they think they saw and/or heard something. After a few episodes I got tired of watching it for the attempt of finding a ghost and started to watch it because I was wondering how they where going to explain that there was no ghost. Which was still not that entertaining.</p> <p><img width="400" height="225" alt="" src="http://www.tvchannelsfree.com/tcfcrawler/thumbs/000/117/117298.jpg" /><br /> It's not all bad though. I do like the stories that come along with the episodes in explaining what is going on in each location. These stories are the most interesting aspect to the show and were the only reason I was able to make it through the whole DVD set. Now if they were able to prove without a shadow of doubt that there was a ghost or spirit in one of the episodes, just one, I would have been hooked waiting for another ghost to appear. Instead, the show just goes on the same way in each episode, even though they go to different locations that some are pretty cool and I'll probably never see in my life beyond this instance, but I still got bored and distracted with the show. If the show was a half hour in length, which would really be about 22 minutes, instead of 45 minutes long I think my interest in it would have last longer. The worst aspect about this DVD set was not the show itself but the packaging of the DVD’s. I’ve seen some cheap ways to put the discs in the case but this is by far the worst way I’ve seen. Instead of getting holders for individual discs, the 4 discs are stacked up on each other and being held down by a tab on the top and bottom.</p> <p> </p> </div></div></div><h1 id="page-title">Ghost Hunters</h1><div class="field field-name-field-season field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-inline clearfix"><div class="field-label">Season:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">7</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-talents field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Talent(s):&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/talents/grant-wilson" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Grant Wilson</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/talents/jason-hawes" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Jason Hawes</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-picture field-type-image field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://shakefire.com/sites/default/files/styles/picture/public/reviews/A1thAjzm26L__AA1500__event_main.jpg?itok=U7tC9j0r" width="640" height="902" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-starring field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Starring:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/talents/grant-wilson" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Grant Wilson</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/talents/jason-hawes" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Jason Hawes</a></div></div></div> Wed, 26 Sep 2012 16:01:00 +0000 Lee Roberts 19036 at http://shakefire.com http://shakefire.com/review/ghost-hunters-season-7-part-1#comments Ghost Hunters Season 7 http://shakefire.com/season/ghost-hunters-season-7 <h1 id="page-title">Ghost Hunters</h1><div class="title-type">Season: 7</div><div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p><strong><em><u>GHOST HUNTERS:</u></em></strong><br /> They may have ordinary jobs by day as plumbers but at night Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes become the Ghost Hunters. The team goes to the prison with all their gear to find out if any of the claims are true.</p> <p>In the episode “Camp Fear”, TAPS take on one of everyone’s fears, the woods. Rutledge, GA is the home to Georgia’s Camp Rutledge where it was used as a location for a Friday the 13th movie. At the camp people have claimed to have heard noises, seen figures in the woods, shadows walking around, a boy drowning, wet footsteps, and other incarnations that would give a brave person the hibbie gibbies. Out in the woods of this camp the team of Ghost Hunters try to track down some elemental spirits that are running rampant on this camp before making a stop in Marion, NC to find out if there is a ghost trying to hurt a girl that lives there.</p> <p><strong><em><u>LET THE HUNT BEGIN:</u></em></strong><br /> In the episode “A Serial Killer’s Revenge”, there’s basically nothing different than past episodes that I’ve seen of Ghost Hunters. The group TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) go to a location that has rumors of being haunted where people claim that they have had some sort of encounter with a ghost or spirit. They have all the gear, cameras placed around center areas of the prison, cameras that has night vision lens, and all other sorts of gadgets in their quest to find the spirits of the world.</p> <p><img width="400" height="224" alt="" src="http://www.syfy.com/_cache/images/video.syfy.com/syfy_video_thumbnails/NBCU_Syfy/29/816/syfy_gh_season85_launch1_167_mezzn___CC___300x168.jpg" /><br /> I wasn’t too thrilled with this episode of Ghost Hunters because not much of anything happens. There’s some moments where one of the group members suddenly has scratch marks on her arms but that’s the most exciting moments of the episode. When I watched this episode I wasn’t really expecting to see a real ghost floating around the building or the group attacked by some vengeful evil spirit looking to back at the living. Though I am looking to get those chills that go down the spine when I think something spooky might happen or that maybe they will hear some crazy noise that’s out of place, something that will make me have those chills. Didn’t happen, at least not the chills for me. There where some moments where I thought something was going to happen, it seemed like they where onto something, but by the end of the episode I never got spooked.</p> <p> With “Camp Fear” episode I expected it to be the same as the last one but I was completely wrong. Could it be a bas fear that resides in everyone that makes the woods scary, even when on tv? Maybe, maybe not but I got to admit this episode did give me the chills. Even though nothing happens that I think would be classified as a ghost or spirit but the idea of that kind of stuff happening is pretty scary, especially when it’s out in the middle of nowhere when you couldn’t get any help if you needed it and when it gets dark it’s like the world has turned off it’s light.</p> <p><img width="400" height="224" alt="" src="http://www.syfy.com/_cache/images/video.syfy.com/syfy_video_thumbnails/NBCU_Syfy/33/799/syfy_gh_ep813_sneak_447_mezzn___CC___300x168.jpg" /><br /> This was the kind of reaction that makes this show fun to watch. I never expect this kind of show to actually prove and show some real ghosts and spirits, if it did it would have made national news, probably world news, instead of being aired on a cable station once a week at 9pm. What I look for in this show is not the proof of ghosts or spirits but if the show can illicit some sort of reaction from me because it’s tapped into my own thoughts and fears of something. It’s the anticipation of what’s around the corner and if that sound really was made. Ghost Hunters uses all the edit mold for reality TV, build up the first part of the segment, have it start to lead somewhere, then right at the end make it look like it’s going to payoff but go to commercial. Add in the suspenseful music that’s played during the moments when the team seem to hear or see something, the night vision cameras, and how serious these guys take their job and what you get is a show that’s both entertaining and a little on the edge of being too much. <br />  </p> </div></div></div><h1 id="page-title">Ghost Hunters</h1><div class="field field-name-field-talents field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Talent(s):&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/talents/jason-hawes" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Jason Hawes</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/talents/amy-bruni" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Amy Bruni</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/talents/adam-berry" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Adam Berry</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-picture field-type-image field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://shakefire.com/sites/default/files/styles/picture/public/reviews/ghost%20hunters.jpg?itok=zJsjbV0A" width="640" height="824" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-starring field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Starring:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/talents/jason-hawes" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Jason Hawes</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/talents/amy-bruni" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Amy Bruni</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/talents/adam-berry" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Adam Berry</a></div></div></div> Mon, 03 Sep 2012 06:07:57 +0000 Lee Roberts 15114 at http://shakefire.com http://shakefire.com/review/ghost-hunters-preview#comments Ghost Hunters: Season 6: Part 2 (BLU-RAY) http://shakefire.com/review/ghost-hunters-season-6-part-2-blu-ray <div class="field field-name-field-review field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Review:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/reviews/tv-at-home/tv-on-blu-ray" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">TV on Blu-Ray</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-is-exclusive field-type-list-boolean field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Exclusive?:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-grade field-type-number-decimal field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Grade:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">1.90</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Tags:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/ghost-hunters" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Ghost Hunters</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/tags/syfy" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">SyFy</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p>If you happened to have to read my review for Ghost Hunters Season Six: Part One on Blu-Ray its safe to say that nothing much has changed by way of picture and audio for the second half release of Ghost Hunters Season 6. It does manage to drop a grade level though due to a lack of bonus features. I mean, come on. We’ve all seen the fact checking crew watching and listening to hours and hours of video footage and audio footage. There had to have been something they could have supplemented this release with. Bloopers, Interviews, even a text based bonus feature on the equipment they use (not that we haven‘t been given lessons on equipment on the show since episode one, season one). Considering the shows Blu-Ray release is in 1080i, the same video quality rate used for HD TV, people, if they were so inclined, would be better off using their DVR to record the show in HD and boycotting this particular Blu-Ray release. Really? Just the show. </p> <p><em><strong>QUALITY:</strong></em><br /> As I said last time, the show is shot using various amounts of video equipment from regular cameras to night vision cameras and beyond. This causes an inconsistency in picture quality. The lower you go in video equipment the more the picture has to contend with video noise, loss of clarity and color, sometimes significant loss. Also like last time colors are brilliant during daytime scenes when the show uses a conventional camera but there is a small amount of grain and clarity issues. Again, that’s just the way the show is recorded. You go in expecting this, well, if you’re a videophile anyway. Audio is still decent allowing you that extra boost, depending on your TV and surround sounds capability, to hear audio evidence clearer and the shows eerie soundtrack gets that welcomed bump to add a bit more chills and thrills to the show. </p> <p><em><strong>BONUS FEATURES:</strong></em><br /> Nothing, zip, nada, zilch, zero. My hope that bonus features would arrive for Season 6 in the second half Blu-Ray release did not come to fruition. There’s no tough guy antics trying to egg on ghosts, rarely ever is one of the TAPS crew so sure they are being contacted by ghosts that they scream their lungs out and run panicked through the darkness (cough cough Most Haunted cough). Matter of fact I respect these guys more because they tend to find ways of debunking most hauntings and only really get excited when they get some definitive proof (definitive being a loose term here). Its not a total loss but just don’t get your hopes up. </p> <p><strong><em>QUALITY:</em></strong><br /> If you’ve ever seen Ghost Hunters then you know what your in for. The group likes to do all their investigating in the dark which means that all of the camera’s in use are night camera’s and your screen will be awash with a picture that struggles but all together loses against video noise. When your seeing the picture through the FLIR lens, forget about it. The only real time your going to get a decent picture is during the day as the episodes begin, the crew get their assignment, and they drive and meet their client for a walk through. Unfortunately even then the picture never truly hits that HD peak like your hoping. Colors are brilliant during the day but focus seems to strain, especially when your seeing the crew in their vehicles driving to and from their destination. Its just a mish mash of pretty decent to might as well be on DVD quality, but as I’ve seen all of these episodes on television there is obviously a higher quality where color and definition (where applicable) is concerned. Its not a total loss but just don&amp;rs</p> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-starring field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-inline clearfix"><div class="field-label">Starring:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/talents/grant-wilson" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Grant Wilson</a>, </div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/talents/jason-hawes" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Jason Hawes</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-inline clearfix"><div class="field-label">Tags:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/ghosts" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Ghosts</a>, </div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/tags/reality" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">reality</a>, </div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/haunted-houses" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Haunted Houses</a>, </div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/tags/history-events" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">History &amp; Events</a>, </div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/myths-legends" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Myths &amp; Legends</a>, </div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/tags/supernatural-paranormal" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Supernatural &amp; Paranormal</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-bluray-cover field-type-image field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://shakefire.com/sites/default/files/tv/1583930h_0.jpg" width="500" height="653" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-bluray-date field-type-datetime field-label-inline clearfix"><div class="field-label">On Blu-Ray:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><span class="date-display-single" property="dc:date" datatype="xsd:dateTime" content="2011-09-13T00:00:00-04:00">Tuesday, September 13, 2011</span></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-discs field-type-number-integer field-label-inline clearfix"><div class="field-label">Discs:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">3</div></div></div> Thu, 29 Sep 2011 00:56:58 +0000 AJ Garcia 18860 at http://shakefire.com Ghost Hunters: Pacific Aviation Museum (PREVIEW) http://shakefire.com/review/ghost-hunters-pacific-aviation-museum-preview <div class="field field-name-field-review field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Review:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/reviews/tv-show/tv-show" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">TV Show</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-is-exclusive field-type-list-boolean field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Exclusive?:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-grade field-type-number-decimal field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Grade:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">2.80</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Tags:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/pacific-aviation-museum" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Pacific Aviation Museum</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/tags/josh-gates" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Josh Gates</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/grant-wilson" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Grant Wilson</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/tags/jason-hawes" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Jason Hawes</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/pearl-harbor" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Pearl Harbor</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/tags/ghost-hunters" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Ghost Hunters</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p class="MsoNormal"><em>Ghost Hunters</em> has had its fair share of mystery surrounding it, after all, they do explore supposedly haunted locations in search for the paranormal. Currently in its seventh season, SyFy plans to air a special episode on June 1st in which TAPS investigates the Pacific Aviation Museum, the site of Pearl Harbor.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Thousands of soldiers lost their lives when the military base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was attacked by the Japanese in December of 1941. It’s an event that will always be remembered by the United States and one that directly caused us to enter World War II. The Pacific Aviation Museum pays tribute to the lives lost and even has buildings and wreckage from that fateful day, still riddled with bullet holes.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">There have been rumors of sounds and ghosts populating the museum, so naturally the Ghost Hunters want to get to the bottom of it. The majority of the episode is exactly what you would expect from the show. Mysterious sounds, random “sightings;” basically the same things in all episodes. There are, however, a few surprises. I won’t go and spoil the fun by telling you what they are but it’s more than just a shadow across the hanger.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Regardless of whether or not anything is staged, this <em>Ghost Hunters</em> special is entertaining. I am disappointed in how it ends with a “To be continued…” and doesn’t go into any of the evidence collected. Plus, the way they leave is just as cheesy as ever. There’s another case so let’s immediately leave Hawaii and get to it? C’mon, really?</p> <p>The Pacific Aviation Museum special of <em>Ghost Hunters</em> manages to be more entertaining that many other episodes from the series but still suffers from some of the same downfalls as the rest. You’ll be entertained but as far as providing proof that ghosts exist, that’s somewhat of a stretch.</p> <p><a href="http://www.twitter.com/Majiesto">Follow me on Twitter @Majiesto</a></p> </div></div></div><h1 id="page-title">Ghost Hunters</h1><div class="field field-name-field-talents field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Talent(s):&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/talents/josh-gates" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Josh Gates</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/talents/grant-wilson" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Grant Wilson</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/talents/jason-hawes" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Jason Hawes</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-picture field-type-image field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://shakefire.com/sites/default/files/styles/picture/public/reviews/Ghost%20Hunters.jpg?itok=ZZyOWMEg" width="640" height="425" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-starring field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Starring:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/talents/josh-gates" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Josh Gates</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/talents/grant-wilson" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Grant Wilson</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/talents/jason-hawes" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Jason Hawes</a></div></div></div> Wed, 25 May 2011 11:58:27 +0000 Matt Rodriguez 15003 at http://shakefire.com http://shakefire.com/review/ghost-hunters-pacific-aviation-museum-preview#comments
