The Curse of the Black Pearl may be the movie that started it all but this is the movie that nearly killed it all.  After the enormous success of the hugely entertaining first film, Dead Man’s Chest came in as the redheaded stepchild and ultimately wound up confusing and utterly disappointing.

Quality:
Despite the quality (or lack thereof) of the plotline and the movie itself, it is absolutely gorgeous in HD format.  The picture is crisp and the sound is downright jarring to the core.  The scenes in the storming weather will almost make you feel like grabbing a towel and you are left breathless at the end.

Bonus Features:
The bonus features aren’t as heavy as the first movie but they aren’t light either.  The bloopers are funny and the behind-the-scenes are actually somewhat insightful.  Although the special features aren’t better quality than the DVD release, they are still better than most.

Overall:
Bringing a new perspective on a slightly disappointing movie, Dead Man’s Chest in blu-ray is an artform in itself.  The Curse of the Black Pearl is the obvious choice if you were only going to grab one of these but this is a great addition above some of the other unwarranted movies that have found their way onto the format.  Ultimately, a great buy for quality-snobs.
