Timothy Bloom

Timothy Bloom: Quickie 10

Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Timothy Bloom counts Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, Bill Withers, and Jeff Buckley among his inspirations. The son of pastors, he grew up with music surrounding him. He debuted not as a solo artist, but as a collaborative songwriter, and he got his foot in the door in a major way; the North Carolina native co-wrote a pair of songs with Smokey Robinson, "My World" and "Fallin'," both of which were included on Robinson's 2005-released My World: The Definitive Collection. In 2009, he played a major role in Quite Like Me, an independently released album by vocalist Dionyza, and he provided background vocals on Usher's Raymond V. Raymond, issued the following year. He finally broke through as a solo artist in 2011 with The Budding Rose, an EP led by the stunning ballad "'Til the End of Time," a duet with Veronika Bozeman promoted with an equally striking video. The song impacted Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop chart just before the release of Chris Brown's F.A.M.E., an album highlighted by Bloom's "All Back." Bloom's debut album was scheduled for release later in the year through Polow da Don's Zone 4 and Timbaland's Mosley Music via Interscope.

1. Favorite Restaurant
There’s an organic restaurant, the Bloom Café, that I like.  They have a juice I really like, Garden Patch, that they make with carrots, spinach, celery and parsley.  I try to eat organically however, I also love Caribbean food.

2. Greatest gift you ever received?
My children.  I have a daughter and a son.  I’ll never forget the moment each of them was born.   They are the lights that guide me on my journey.

3. Firm or soft mattress?
I like a firm mattress.  I want my back to be supported whether I’m sleeping, resting or …….

4. Is there anything you wish you were better at:
Communicating.   I communicate through my melodies and my lyrics so if you really want to know what’s going on with me, listen to my music. I am working on communicating better verbally.

5. Where are you right now?
Creatively I’m in a great space.  I’m in Miami working with Timbaland and will be completing my album soon.  Spiritually I’m content and grateful for the blessings I am receiving and the musical opportunity I have been given.

6. Look before you leap or just leap?
Leap, of course.  I’m a musician so I have to go with the vibe.

7. What did you do for your last birthday?
I went to Catalina with a friend and went ziplining for the first time. It was a blast.  What a rush, I can’t wait for the opportunity to do it again.

8. Do you have any good luck charms?
My two babies.

9. Was it ever awkward filming your video for “Til the End of Time” or very natural the whole time?
Maybe a little with people looking at my ass.  I also wanted to make sure that V was comfortable as well.  In order to convey the artistic message we were looking for, we had to trust each other and block our insecurities.

10. Do you have any shows coming up?
Yes.  I’m opening for Ledisi and Melanie Fiona on June 18th at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.  I’m also performing in one of the Superlounges at the Essence Festival in New Orleans on July 2nd. This is one of the largest music festivals in the country and to be performing there before my new CD, In Full Bloom, is released is truly a blessing.
