Quicksilver Messenger Service: Live At The Old Mill Tavern - March 29, 1970

Live At The Old Mill Tavern March 29 1970

(Quicksilver Messenger Service)
Release Date:
Tuesday, August 27, 2013
I have to say that I was truly disappointed when I popped in Quicksilver Messenger Service’s live recording of their March 29th show in 1970 at the Oldmill Tavern. All the jamming quality was there but the audio left a lot to be desired.
Maybe I’m spoiled, having listened to some of the best sounding live albums on CD, but Messenger Service sounded like someone at a concert recorded it on some shoddy equipment, then someone got hold of that recording was and was playing it next door, and I was listening to it through an open window from far away.
Vocals come out like dynamite, as do a lot of the guitar parts, but even then the sound is a bit hollow. It’s a real shame as you can hear bongo drums being attacked in the background with precision and passion, drums being played like there would be no tomorrow, but alas it’s all a jumbled blur in the nearly bass-less offering of an album, and it’s an excellent set, just not enough oomph behind the recording to give you the full show. Terrible shame.
