Interesting Tidbits

Ellie Goulding runs about 6 miles everyday.

Ellie Goulding is a singer/songwriter that has received both critical praise and numerous award wins/nominations. She made a splash in the U.K. charts since her debut in 2010 and broke through the U.S. market with her smash #1 hit single, “Light,” in 2011. Her musical influences include Kanye West, Bjork, Beyonce, and Lana Del Rey. I describe her musical style as a more dance-infused and easier to relate Bjork-esque sound with more mass appeal. She is a one-of-a-kind artist that adds her own flair and style to every project she is a part of. “Halcyon Days” is a deluxe version of her 2nd album release “Halcyon” with even more songs and some hit songs from her 1st album. It is the perfect album for any Ellie Goulding fans and anyone that want to get to know he music better.

I remember hearing “Light” for the first time several years ago and falling in love with everything about Ellie. She is a unique artist with a distinct voice, distinct sound, and loads of talent. Her lyrics are very emotional and not too abstract making her songs easy to relate to. Whether she is slowing things down or singing in an up-tempo song, this album is full of variety and includes several guest cameos that still allow Ellie to shine. My favorite songs on the album were “Lights,” “Need your Love,” “Burn,” and “Anything could Happen.” This is not to discount the rest of the album because I think I could listen to “Halcyon Days” on repeat all day long.

This was a very well-constructed album that showcased Ellie’s talents and other sides of her. Especially if you are an Ellie Goulding fan, I highly recommend checking out “Halcyon Days” as soon as you get a chance. She is a musical artist with a lot of staying power if she continues on this road. For those reasons, I am giving this album an “A.”
