Emily Owens M.D. (PREVIEW)

Emily Owens, M.D. isn't a bad show by any stretch. Now I realize that it sounds like I'm damning it with faint praise, but I have to admit that I had incredibly low expectations based on appearances. A hospital-based drama featuring a new intern (cue Emliy Owens) working at Denver Memorial Hospital and struggling through work hurdles, gossip, crushes, and supervisor secrets? Yeah, I'm definitely not in the core demographic that this show is aimed at. My eyes generally glaze over at the mention of Grey's Anatomy and show of that ilk.

That said, I found myself enjoying this one, at least at a nominal level. While I don't see myself following this show, it's enjoyable enough for what it is. The mix of drama and comedy doesn't feel heavy-handed and the cast chemistry works. I'm guessing that the weekly episodes will focus on a variety of patients, illnesses, and inter-staff drama. Again, that's not something that really resonates with me, but I wouldn't mind watching this from time to time if my wife wanted to keep up with it. That's about as balanced as i can get with a show like this, so give it a whirl if this sounds like something you'd be into. Or just skip it and keep crying over that thing that that doctor said to that nurse on Grey's Anatomy.
