“Fish Tank Kings” is a “reality show” that can be seen on the National Geographic Channel. They are set to return for their second season on Saturday, June 1st at 9pm. The show is similar to “Pimp my Ride” but has to do more with custom fish tanks. This show follows Living Color Aquariums and the interesting requests they get and the amazing custom fish tanks they create. I grew up with lots of pet fish and I thought this would be a great show for me to watch, but was disappointed with the episode I had to review, which was titled “The Amazing Aqua-van.”

In this episode, the guys at Living Color Aquariums were asked to make an aquarium for a car lot grand opening and they are searching for a marine biology apprentice. I liked the finished product, but the rest of the episode was pretty cheesy and felt scripted. The cast of characters in the show are boring to watch and not likeable at all. The only exception is Francis the fish geek, but he seems a bit too stereotypical. They try to create drama to make things interesting, but not enough to make the audience care about what is really going on or troubling the cast. This show is plagued with issues, but the fact that it is boring and unrelatable are the major ones.

I had high hopes when I heard the premise for this show, but was thoroughly let down. There are too many reality shows that follow the same formula as “Fish Tank Kings,” but the others are a bit more interesting. I give them credit for their creativity and cool creations, but would rather look at the finished product than see the whole process over an hour. I do not recommend watching this show, but would ask them to make me a fish tank if given the chance. For those reasons, I am giving this show and the episode a “D.”
