Having been introduced to, and enjoyed, the soundtrack for the film Super Zeroes, a Hip Hop/Country mash up, I got a taste for country hip hop. That soundtrack featured the producer for this album, Colt Ford, and on it I got a dose of Bubba Sparxxx, Rehab (who guests on a track here), The Lacs (another guest), and Colt Ford & John Anderson. That being said I was looking forward to this album.

Unfortunately as I spun this CD to and from work, at my station, and over the surround sound while I worked on some stuff, I found it had its moments of genius, but a majority of it was pretty unexceptional.

One of my biggest problems with the album is that the themes are so repetitive. Hearing the group talk about getting drunk, California, moonshine, shotguns, trucks…it gets old quick, especially when the themes are repeated so often making each song following the other sound so similar.

I didn’t care for the flow on vocals. When the group performs country style it sounds good, but when they switch over to hip hop the delivery is pretty flat, like someone just talking. Not monotone, but not overly punctuated.

Other then that the album has it’s good parts. Like I said, when the band goes country with a bit of hip hop flare in the music things sound good. I loved the guitar work on the album and some of the themes, real blue collar type themes, I connected with. I just wasn’t that into it overall.
