Now I’m not usually one for singer-songwriters, but Ari Hest may be one that changes my opinion. Most musicians of this ilk tend to bore me; most of the songs just tend to run together without a whole lot of variation musically. But Ari Hest is different and to be honest, listening to his CD was rather refreshing. Most of the tunes here are on the more mellow side, but Hest’s voice is solid and really easy on the ears. His delivery reminds me a lot of Chris Martin when he sings in his lower registry. His style is also reminiscent of Matt Kearney, who’s one of the other few singer-songwriters who I enjoy. Beyond that, there’s not much else to say. Perhaps that’s a reflection of a slight lack of depth within this album, but it really is an easy listen from start to finish. Catchy tunes, solid instrumentation, it was a nice record to listen to. If this genre is up your alley, you definitely need to check out Hest’s music. |
