Artist: Fenech-Soler Album: Demons EP Members: Ben Duffy, Daniel Soler, Ross Duffy & Andrew Lindsay Genre: Pop Label: B-Unique Tracks: 4 Type: EP Release Date: April 7, 2011 Notes: Digital Review Rating: ( )Grade: B+ Factoid: The name Fenech Soler comes from Daniel Soler's full surname, which is Maltese. Since the considerable death of radio and music video stations, in my humble opinion, there have been fewer places to go to look for new music. I spent a considerable time playing Second Life which has been a fantastic source over the years for finding new music. I hung out in many different virtual clubs listening to DJ’s from Australia to the U.K. and even Japan. In one club, as my avatar stood stationary by the bar, the DJ began to play Battlefields by Fenech-Soler, an electro pop heavy dance number. The next day I went to Amazon and purchased the imported CD of their self titled album and its been in heavy rotation ever since. When I saw that I had the bands name in my writing assignments I greedily envisioned a new album that I would get to sample selfishly before the rest of the world. Not quite. At best I was gifted a new remix. Okay so to be fair it doesn’t look like the bands self titled album is in the states as of yet, unless you want to buy the import from Amazon, which is considerably cheaper then it was back when I bought it. In any case their Demons EP contains three album cuts and one remix. If you’ve never heard the band before, do. Vocals sound a bit Coldplay meets Maroon 5 and their sound is all over the electro pop map. This EP is just a taste of what Fenech-Soler is about, and believe me when I say, Their full length album is great. If your new to the band this is a fantastic sample introduction, but where the Demons White Version Remix is concerned, I was a bit disappointed. I thought, maybe, the reason I wasn’t so impressed with the remix is because I’d already grown used to the album version. I gave this thought a few rounds before finally putting my finger on the problem. Demons is a danceable track that has energy and a great vocal flow. The White Version Remix is taken down a considerable notch, way down. Its molasses flow takes the song and puts an ominous spin on it making it less of a song that you can dance to and more one that you can throw on when your in a doom and gloom type of mood. I didn’t feel as if the song added anything to the EP. It also doesn’t help that the track can be found on the bands free White Versions EP at their Facebook page. In any case the EP is, as I said before, a fantastic sampler. As always, final judgment is yours. Enjoy.
