The launching pad for two of the best known stars in Hollywood is now available on Blu-Ray.

The Last of The Mohicans was not only the big break for actor Daniel Day Lewis, but also the first theatrical directing gig for Michael Mann, Who has directed films such as Heat, Public Enemies, Ali, and Collateral.

This was my first watching the film, and right off the bat I gotta say the movie looks great. With so many sweeping shots of the American frontier the details look great. The only times the HD looked less than stellar was when there were zoomed in shots, but most converted films have that problem as well.

As for the movie itself I really enjoyed it. It is the story of Hawkeye, a white man raised by Indians, and his discovery of love with a women from a different culture all during The French and Indian War. As stated earlier there is great cinematography throughout and well staged action sequences set to dramatic backdrops. The film also has great political context with the battling countries and all of the blurred alliances that took place throughout the war. This film is the textbook definition of sweeping epic. The film is extremely emotional and is tense throughout. Mohicans is one of Mann's better films, where he began to focus more on movies about crime and hasn't yet returned to doing another sweeping epic like this film.

So if you've already seen this film and are considering buying, you definitely will not be disappointed. Especially since there is also commentary by Mann and a 3 part making of documentary which also talks about the history of that time. But if you haven't seen this film yet I highly suggest you watch it on Blu-Ray especially if you enjoy themes of war and love and a bit of history too.
