Vic Mignogna was the original choice for the English dub voice of Keroro. While Todd Haberkorn (who is now the official English dub voice of Keroro) was originally going to be the voice of Kululu. ~IMDB

How can you explain Sgt. Frog to friends when you need to? You could always tell them its like Shin Chan, so aimless with its shock comedy direction but in a genuinely funny way. Its a lot easier then saying its about a reconnaissance of Frog soldiers that are left on Earth, have become domestic servants to an Earthling family, and their leader is desperately addicted to comics and Gundam models. Oh yeah, they occasionally attempt to take over the world every now and then to hilarious failure. It’s really up to you.

Funimation has already released Sgt. Frog on DVD in Season 2 Part 1 & Part 2 individually and this new set doesn’t offer anything new as far as episodes or supplemental material goes. If you don’t already own Sgt. Frog Season 2 in its entirety this would be your chance. Here’s a secret as well for the frugal Otaku. Amazon has this complete package going for $43.99 but if you buy the Part 1 & Part 2 sets individually Part 1 at Amazon is a reasonable $18.99 and Part 2 an even more reasonable steal at $9.73. Yup, that’s right, $9.73, brand spanking new. That gets you the complete series for the low price of $28.72, and with Amazon’s free Super Saver Shipping deal on orders over $25 the $28.72 price is your flat price (Not sure how long Amazon will have these prices so get there fast). Pretty sweet in my opinion if your looking to get Sgt. Frog Season 2 in its entirety for your collection. Of course if you’re a completionist and just want the box art from the Season 2 complete set have at it. It’s up to you.

As far as the show goes I laughed a bit but overall didn’t find Sgt. Frog to be the phenomenon it is for others. The show sounds mostly like the cast is going off script, adding in pop culture references here and there, and tossing in some subtle but funny little jokes where applicable. At best this is the kind of title you watch in the in between times when your waiting for a more substantial anime to drop another installment in its series or when you’ve, not sure if this is possible but, watched all the anime you can think of and are waiting for some future anime film to come out or whatever looks worth a try. Without a doubt you’ve got your all out hilarious episodes but the average hilarity for each episode varies and as far as story goes there isn’t much to it. The Frog Platoon will attempt to take over the world while immersing themselves in our culture and fail miserably every time and do their best to show visitors from their planet that they aren’t complete screw ups by making deals with the humans to pretend their under the Frog Platoons control. It reminded me a bit of UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie and, like I said, Shin Chan. Not the greatest anime out there but I can see where people would become slightly addicted to the humor. A always final judgment is yours. Enjoy.
