Five stories make up "The Agatha Christie Hour, Set 2":

  • Magnolia Blossom
  • The Mystery of the Blue Jar
  • The Red Signal
  • Jane in Search of a Job
  • The Manhood of Edward Robinson

All five stories are set in the 1920-1930s period ("intrigue and romance in Art Deco England") and while these are very compelling and well-told stories, they are still nothing short of daytime television; something to fill the day. There is plenty of intrigue and "what's going on?" (infidelity to the paranormal) to keep you going to the end, but it's not "The Usual Suspects" by any stretch, and thankfully, not too much "Murder She Wrote."

Each episode is beautifully-crafted (don't forget this is 1982) and has lovely costumes and set-dressing. They also sport a wonderful cast: Amanda Redman (New Tricks, Sexy Beast), Ralph Bates (Dear John, Poldark), Stephanie Cole (Doc Martin), Cherie Lunghi (Secret Diary of a Call Girl), Christopher Cazenove (The Duchess of Duke Street, Dynasty), Jeremy Clyde (Raffles), and a very young Rupert Everett (My Best Friend’s Wedding). You almost don't recognize him except for his height. Still, everyone has to start somewhere, right?

Any Agatha Christie fan would love to add these hour-long stories to his or her collection.
