Love and Hate Happening At DC Comics With Bad Superbowl Trailers And Another Week of Spider/Ock Ranting

NEWS HAPPENING IN THE COMIC BOOK WORLD:
It’s getting near Valentine’s Day, a day where love is supposed to be celebrated and it looks like DC Comics decided they would do some celebrating as well. It’s called “Young Romance”, yeah pretty sappy for a title name but hey it’s for Valentine’s Day so the sap is part of the deal. Though it’s really not that great of a deal considering it’s $7.99 cover price for 64 pages of stories dealing with love. There’s a Batman & Catwoman story, which can be read in the first issues of Catwoman, one on Aquaman & Mera, and one with Superman & Wonder Woman called Truth or Dare but I doubt it will be that wild and crazy. Since I didn’t read it I won’t say whether it’s a bad or good read, for all I know it could have some of the best writing for the characters involved but with the cover price that it has I’m turned off from it.

Here’s some more news from the DC Comics camp that might be disappointing for some. Another 6, count them, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, SIX, titles have hit the chopping block. Here are the latest in titles to be canceled  Team 7, Deathstroke, The Saveage Hawkman, Sword of Sorcery, Fury of the Firestorm, and Ravagers. I can’t say that I’m surprised really considering they have been canceling titles ever since starting the New 52 so what’s another 6 titles. Though Deathstroke, The Savage Hawkman, and Fury of the Firestorm were 3 of the original New 52 titles. That got me thinking about what titles are left from the first bunch so here they are, the remaining 31 of the New 52.

COMICS IN THE MOVIES AND TELEVISION:
Was anyone else displeased with the Iron Man 3 so called trailer that was shown during the Super Bowl? I sure was. That 30 second long trailer that showed him catching those people and then it was over. It was nothing. Then to make it worse I went online to watch the extended version and all it was was the trailer I’d already seen except it had Robert Downey Jr. staring into the camera. Yeah nothing else and considering the millions that was spent to air that trailer I expected a whole lot more.

Speaking of more, here’s a little more news from the world of comic movies. Guardians of the Galaxy has an actor for the role of Star Lord. Chris Pratt. Yeah I don't know who that is either but he has the lead for a movie I'm hoping will be good. If you don't know who the Guardians of the Galaxy are, easiest way to explain who they are is that they are the Avengers for space. They're the Guardians of the Galaxy, nuff said.

UPCOMING TITLE THAT LOOKS PROMISING:

BOOK TO READ THIS WEEK:
I have 2 books this week and I'm actually really shocked that they came out.
Book 1 is:
Scarlet #6 (yeah right I know)
Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Drawn by Alex Maleev
Release Date February 6 2013 (if you want a frame of mind of how big this is, the last issue, issue #5 came out March 30, 2011, note 2011, just shy of 2 years of a wait for this issue)
Cover Price: $3.95
Plot: Who cares I'm just happy that after a 2 year wait for this issue is over.

Book 2 is:
Hit Girl #5
Written by Mark Miller
Drawn by John Romita Jr.
Release Date February 6 2013
Cover Price $4.99 (yes that's a whopping price)
Plot: It's the last issue of one of the toughest and scarist girls around.

SPIDER-MAN RANT OF THE WEEK:
Superior Spider-Man #3 came out this week and what was in it this week that got on my nerves, aside from the whole comic? I just don't like how easy they gloss over explaning why Spider-Man is acting different. Though I did like the idea of Ock still thinking of Vulture as he did when he was the villain Doc Ock working with Vulture but when he fought him as Spider-Man and did what he does at the end, it's just like oh well cause I had to, ok that's cool nothing wrong or different with you then Spidey, have a nice day. Is this being done on purpose where it's known that it will annoy the readers or just a by product of what Dan Slott thinks is a good plot idea?
