Tom Hardy to Star in Spider-Man Spinoff 'Venom'

Tom Hardy will star in the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff film, Venom, which has already been given a release date of October 5, 2018. He will play Eddie Brock, the host human who becomes the villianous Venom after coming in contact with the dangerous alien symbiote. Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer has been hired to direct.

Venom will be a standalone film for the titular character. If you recall, he was last seen as one of the villains in Sam Rami's Spider-Man 3, portrayed by Topher Grace. Tom Hardy is no stranger to the superhero genre, having previously played Bane in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises

Sony Pictures Entertainment, who currently owns the film rights to Spider-Man and its characters, has been developing the film for quite some time now. The studio is also busy developing a Silver Sable/Black Cat film as well.

Fleischer will work from a script written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing along with Amy Pascal. Production is scheduled to begin this fall.
