Season 3.5 of Eureka kicks off on July 10, bringing with it the quirky and kooky residents of the town of the same name. It’s a pretty solid show with a good cast and imaginative sci-fi storytelling. If you haven’t seen the show before, picture a slightly more light-hearted X-Files, mixed with elements of The Twilight Zone.

These first two episodes of 3.5 show the possible return of Sheriff Jack Carter along with the introduction of a sheriff-in-the-box, a new robot designed to serve in Carter’s absence. In this episode, “Welcome Back Carter,” the inanimate objects all over town start falling in random places at random times. In the following episode, “Your Face Or Mine,” Deputy Jo Lupo aces a new test designed for the law officers while also dealing with rumors of her own strange behavior around town.

These episodes are pretty good indicators of the series as whole (at least from what I’ve seen of the show). It’s a fun show, with some really in-depth science fiction theories mixed in for good measure. It might be a bit of an acquired taste, but those who have the patience to develop it will be rewarded with good storylines and an engaging cast.
