Spanning 561 episodes across 14 seasons and still going strong, Shonen Jump’s One Piece is one of Funimation’s signature titles alongside Dragon Ball Z. DVD Collection 7 continues the sixth season with Luffy, Usopp and Sanji heading to the Upper Yard to rescue Robin, Zorro, Nami, and Chopper who have all been kidnapped.

Having never seen the show before, it takes a few episodes to understand what exactly is going on. Luffy and his group of cohorts known as the Straw Hat Pirates scour the ocean in search of treasure, specifically the legendary One Piece. Collection 7 follows the group of bandits into the cloud city of Sypeia. As usual, there are many dangers there including people who want them dead, and let’s not forget the aforementioned kidnapping of half the crew.

One Piece isn’t as action-packed as many of its anime brothers but what it lacks in crazy battles, it makes up in humor. There’s plenty of typical anime-styled humor, whether it’s the child-like innocence Luffy portrays or the relentless beatings he takes from friends and foes alike. If you enjoy the type of humor found in Dragon Ball Z, then you’ll love One Piece. Speaking of DBZ, I found it quite interesting to see the voice actors of both Krillin and Gohan in One Piece. It was a little weird hearing their voices with different bodies but you get used to it after a while.

It’s no wonder that One Piece is one of the most popular anime shows around and has gone on for a long as it has. Each episode is packed full of excitement that is sure to grab your attention and keep you watching. I’m not sure how Collection 7 ranks among the rest of the DVD releases but you can bet that I’ll go back and visit past episodes.
