I went a few rounds with Anchored’s latest release, “Listen To This” the past few days and really wrapped my head around the right type of description that would fit the band and their new album. Without being able to really describe them other then Texas Bar Rock Country Pop I decided to skip the labeling and just move on in with the album review.

Track one, Dirty In Texas has that Kid Rock appeal to it that let’s you know that your in for a good time with Anchored. Their sound doesn’t simply stick to the bar rock stuff though as they semi-emulate Nirvana on You, flirt with Nickleback territory on Ms. Stress, and Anemia like formula on Saviour. The band clearly has some inspiration, weather or not I’m hitting the nail on the head in comparisons, but I ended up enjoying the album package for a few different reasons.

The truth is I was struggling with the album. It had a country meets hard rock flare to it that was a bit hard to get into at first and the bands songs didn’t really appeal to me in the lyrical sense. I just wasn’t connecting. I listened to the CD about four times before throwing on the concert DVD that came in the album. The DVD really should have been the first disc you see when opening the case. It’s an up close and personal look at discovering who these guys really are. Their humbled in a way you can only find in bands that are good but haven’t really hit the big time yet, blue collar rockers who never forget where they come from, and pretty much just some all around nice guys. After seeing them in concert and watching the documentary on the band located in the DVD special features, it was a bit easier to get a good bead on the album as a whole.

My favorite tracks from the album would have to be Dirty In Texas, Saviour,  and Last Night. The great thing about the album is that it has a little bit of everything for fans of rock and that concert DVD has a great show from the band, music video’s, the documentary on the band, as well as a behind the scenes  look at one of the music video’s. Well worth checking out if you love rock music. As always final judgment is yours. Enjoy.
